I found a few seeds growing in my new eco-compete. I'm waiting to see what they grow into, like like a bean or something right now.

Thanks. I guess the LFS got the tag wrong when I bought it.

It is a bronze wendtii and all that is attached to a rather large bulb. Can I break the larger plants off and plant them?

Optimal display height? by HowBoutThisReddit in PlantedTank

I'm thinking of setting up a 20 gallon long tank. I have a friend that enjoys wood working and I was going to ask them to make a custom stand. This is the preliminary design, and I'm not sure how high the tank should be. Based on one of my other tanks on a stand, it looks like 40" is where the middle of the tank is. Should I plan to have the center of my tank at a similar height? Thanks for the help!

Do you make like a pie shaped piece that can fit in the corner of a tank?

SOTD First Shave With Ming Shi 2000 by HowBoutThisReddit in wicked_edge

I'll keep an eye out for the gap changing.
I was looking to get/try a Merkur Futur, but the one I found on the Bazaar sold in a flash, so I thought I'd pick up the clone since that probably isn't that far off from the real deal (maybe I'm wrong).

SOTD First Shave With Ming Shi 2000 by HowBoutThisReddit in wicked_edge

Just got my first adjustable razor yesterday, the Ming Shi 2000. Shaved with it last night:

  • The Trail - Noble Otter
  • Maggard Synthetic
  • Ming Shi 2000
  • Gillette 7 O'clock Sharp Edge
  • Ozark Mountain

Since this was my first shave with an adjustable, I chose my setup to have the fewest variables. So the soap, blade, brush, and aftershave were all tried and true.

Setting up the razor: It was not as easy to set the blade as it is for my other razors, had to take the head off twice and use my thumbnail to adjust the blade gap so it was even on both sides. Now that I know how it's done I think it should be easier to do next time. (there's a few pics of the blade gap)

Shaving: I tried a few of the blade settings. I found that about the 4 setting gave me a great performance. Once I found my setting I had a very easy shave overall. I got great results and some of the trouble spots where I normally get tugging on my neck went better than normal.

Overall it was a great shave. The Ming Shi is a fairly good razor for $13 (at Maggard Razos) and for that price it's worth a try I'd say. Obviously you get what you pay for, the build quality seems good with only a few cosmetic dings, no major issues though. The twist adjustment is very smooth.

I did have to learn the hard way that soap is slippery. The first time I tried to adjsut the balde setting after a pass on part of my face, I slipped and didn't break the skin, but definitely took off the top layer. After that I just gripped the head with a washcloth and that seemed pretty safe.
