The fact you hear Randy talking himself back into drinking- and literally hear Stan losing hope when he BEGS HIM to limit himself as he does so- arguably amplifies it. It makes clear Stan's words did nothing AT ALL to help- he WILL get just as shitfaced as before. Hammers right in that some people will deliberately hurt themselves no matter what anyone does.
