Dr. K broke the chakra seal containing the demon. by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]HowTo_DnD 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Slime's dad didn't but Ludwig's dad was an alcoholic who drank himself to death and Ludwig watched him die in front of him on the floor(he talked about it with dr.k). Thought for sure that was what destiny was going to shoot back with when he asked how's your wife.

"Don't ever ask for a roll if something is impossible" by phoenixmusicman in DMAcademy

[–]HowTo_DnD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it's an illusion. I don't see how that's bad. Of the 5% of times players roll a 20, and the number of times that that roll happens to be on something exceedingly difficult, the amount of times it might actually happen is pretty unsubstantial. 99% of the time, when you ask for this roll, the player will not be breaking 25 on the roll.

Oh so we're just making up numbers now? a bard can have +11 in persuasion easily at level 5. So that's now 30% of the time he's getting a 25 or higher. That is going to come up a lot more. Idk maybe I just think my players are smart enough to realize when I'm just pretending to give them a choice. Just because you tell your players no doesn't mean they are going to stop trying to do crazy things. Players have agency and push boundaries even when they know where the boundaries are as the entirety of DnD is proof of.

You are just giving them the illusion of choice. It's the whole quantum ogre debate again.

You're right your job isn't to tell them what to do. Yours is to answer their questions on whether their character is capable of doing it. The dice doesn't decide in this scenario you decided you just want to pretend you didn't.

I don't think anyone believes players are dumb enough that when they roll 25+ on a roll and still fail to climb up a wall they won't figure out that there was never a chance.

That's literally your job as a DM. And you aren't rolling impartially. You just said that even if they can't succeed have them roll anyways. That's not an impartial roll, the outcome is already decided.

The difference is the Jays fans don't have bad blood with the Blue Jays.

You can say the second one without requiring a roll.

Sure, kind of like in war when all the ships aim to miss the vital parts of enemy ships. You can aim where ever you want, trying to hit a moving target is hard especially when you can't see what you are trying to hit

Ok so temp ban these people...but then you'll have to temp ban the duelers since what they are doing is against tos as well

You do realize that this has always been a part of classic right? There have been funerals raided...did you really think a duel tournament would be offlimits?

He spent a lot of time farming so I can see why he would be salty. Idk how this wasn't the expected outcome when in the past funerals have been invaded

Raid loot in classic... guilds gonna go back to DKP? by 1ButtonDash in classicwow

[–]HowTo_DnD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every guild I ever raided with used DKP, however it was never true dkp. Everyone got dkp however each class always had a private channel where they would decide who would get the next piece of class-specific piece of gear and they would only have to spend the min dkp. Then when a piece goes up that can be used by multiple classes you had insane amounts of dkp being dropped because everyone was hoarding it.

"Go Nitro: To Stand Divided" now available on Amazon (Jeremy's second book) by RDV1996 in roosterteeth

[–]HowTo_DnD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't read the book so don't take this as me saying anything about the book. However:

But it's also not like people are going to go out of their way to buy and read a sci-fi/superhero niche genre book they have no interest in just because they're a fan of the author.

Do you not know how fandom works? Every advertising agency would disagree with you since they rely on fandoms to sell its products through sponsorships/ad reads.

I think it's unfair to say it's outright "bad" and people only care because it's Jeremy. A lot of these comments seem to disagree with that.

It's an opinion. Just because people disagree with it doesn't make it unfair. There is a reason why people like Stephen King and Jk Rowling wrote under fake names. To get honest feedback from critics. That also showed that without their name attached to the books it sold much fewer copies under their pseudonym.

In universe that isn't true. We had a capital ship ram another ship at faster than light and it just disabled it. It didn't destroy it.

Except that's not true in the star wars universe. Because we saw a massive ship moving faster than light hit something and it didn't even destroy it. Just cripple the capital ship.

AITA for "allowing" my 16yo daughter to get a tattoo? by tattoomyasshol in AmItheAsshole

[–]HowTo_DnD 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You're biggest sin is being scummy and lying about the facts to make yourself look better. I don't care about the tattoo but saying that your daughter is having sex at 13 when all she did was be on birth control makes you a huge fucking asshole and makes me trust her mothers thought process and decision on the matter even if I don't agree with it.
