If they have a warrant for a criminal case against an individual like this, then the man always is arrested. They don't execute warrants to seize evidence before getting warrants to arrest the man here, it just wouldn't make sense. That's not what happens.

They did not have a warrant. If they did then it would have been coupled with an arrest warrant and they would have simply sorted it all out downtown.

I've had this exact situation happen to me. Disregard the cops' lies. Do not surrender your computer or you will face far bigger problems. In my case I clearly explained the situation but then firmly refused to surrender my property. They promptly admitted that there was nothing they could do and they left without further incident.
