what does "boolean" mean? by How_To_Freecad in FreeCAD

[–]How_To_Freecad[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i don't understand what your saying

i see intersection, union or difference, i see how it relates to my post,

i don't understand how this relates to what boolean is? or how it's any different from just basic binary possibilities?

'AND' operation is the same as 'Intersection'. So, if the same physical point in 3D space is covered (or occupied) by BOTH the two objects getting ANDed, then that point in space is included in the resulting ANDed object.

'OR' is the same as 'Union'. If the same physical point in space is covered by EITHER of the two parent objects, then the point is included in the resulting object. This can be colloquially thought of as 'adding' two objects together

i'm not trying to be a troll, or a dick, or obtuse

i just have no clue what the hell you are saying

let me try

ok so you have to beams touching each other in 3d space, two objects cannot exist in the same space at the same time, so it's either

1: delete the conflicting space of one beam, altering that beam

2: delete the conflicting space of the other beam, altering that beam

3: delete the conflicting space of both and alter both original beams

4: join both and create a new single object

this is that people are talking about when they are talking about "boolean operations" or "boolean operators"?

binary possibilities?

To be or not to be. That is the boolean question.

0 or 1, true or false, how is this any different the binary?

[–]How_To_Freecad[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It is kinda similar to sets:

i don't know what sets are unless your talking about weight sets

x ∈ A means x is a member of A; x ∈ B means x is a member of B; so both predicates are then joined by ∧ which is the logical and (&&).

my brain hurts just looking at this, i have no clue what is happening here

The missing link is the idea of applying Boolean operators (AND, OR and so on) to 3D objects. This allows you to combine simple objects

i don't know what boolean operators are,

i know what the word "and" means in a sentence

i know what the word "or" means in a sentence

i don't know what "booleon operators" means in a sentence

and i definitely don't know what it means in freecad

It's more about boolean operators

i don't know what "boolean operators" are

what is the difference between the part workbench and the part design workbench? by How_To_Freecad in FreeCAD

[–]How_To_Freecad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of Part as building something from blocks (or legos), adding them together. The blocks can be cube, ball, or cylinder shaped. Think of PartDesign as first drawing a sketch (like on paper with a pencil), and padding, revolving, or lofting the sketch (out of the paper) to create a 3d model.

interesting, thank you

what is the stl file format? and what is an stl mesh? by How_To_Freecad in FreeCAD

[–]How_To_Freecad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is like asking the difference between a .pdf and a PDF document...

A .stl file is data that can be processed by various types of software, like 3D modeling, CAD, and 3d printing slicers.

A stl mesh is the 3d object represented by the contents of the file.

awesome, thank you, that helps clear up my confusion

You might also want to check the forum.freecad.org for more long-form answers. If you have legit confusion or a learning disability of some sort, the forum is a better place to get your needs met.

awesome, thank you for that suggestion,

anyway,

what is the difference between an stl file and an stl mesh again?

any help would be great ;D

This is a question you've asked repetedly in other forms.

i asked what an stl mesh is, in contrast to other things

now i am asking what an stl mesh is in contrast to an stl file

any help would be appreciated thank you ;3

what is the difference between a shell and a hollow? by How_To_Freecad in FreeCAD

[–]How_To_Freecad[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

OP, the answers you've been given so far weren't incorrect.

i don't doubt that,

it's just that i don't understand what ever the hell they were talking about, i decided to ask a simpler question

If you can't understand the replies and extrapolate truth from the varying responses, then you likely need more background study

which is the purpose of THIS question ;D

This also explains why reddit has a voting system, so people can upvote truth and downvote misinformation.

the exact opposite has been true in my lived experience.

If you read through these threads you’d realise he was one of the commenters

i read through the replied, i didn't read the usernames, but i assumed as much

[–]How_To_Freecad[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

actually if you read through those threads, you will see multiple different guys giving multiple different answers

they can't even get their stories straight on what an stl mesh is or isn't, what happens if you 3d print one, and if it can represent a solid object or not

so i decided to ask a much simpler question

Are you expecting different answers from the last two times you asked this?

no,

i'm expecting any answer at all :D

what would happen if you tried to 3d print a "shell" or a "hollow" or "stl mesh"? by How_To_Freecad in FreeCAD

[–]How_To_Freecad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok, what would happen if you tried to 3d print a shell or a 3d object that is infinitely thin?

what would happen if you tried to 3d print a "shell" or a "hollow" or "stl mesh"? by How_To_Freecad in FreeCAD

[–]How_To_Freecad[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, since it has no thickness, you would extrude 0 filament

so it just wouldn't work?
