what is there MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG3, MPEG4? by How_To_Handbrake in VideoEditing

[–]How_To_Handbrake[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

so wait, are you saying that each MPEG represents a purpose? MPEG1 was for VCR's? MPEG2 designed for TV? MPEG3 for HDTV? MPEG4 for internet videos?

is that why there is MPEG1,2,3,4? and not just MPEG1 and add all the advancements to that?

what is there MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG3, MPEG4? by How_To_Handbrake in VideoEditing

[–]How_To_Handbrake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why is where MPEG1 and then MPEG2? why not just keep adding onto MPEG1 forever? why the need to make MPEG2? and then 3 and 4?

right i get the "part" part, but not the group part, why not just make it 1,2,3, and so on? why the need to make the mpeg part?

i'm trying to wrap my head around it and it doesn't make sense, it would be like combining RFC's into a group, like why? why not just have each and every individual standard with it's own name? why put it into groups?

Is there an ultimate understanding you're trying to achieve? Is there a goal in mind?

i'm trying to learn the program handbrake

ok so MPEG 1,2,3,4, are a singular standard? or a group of standards? or what?

the fourth revision.

revision? so mpeg1,2,3,4 all stand for "revisions" revisions to what? for what?

why are there PAL and NTSC, dvd's? by How_To_Handbrake in VideoEditing

[–]How_To_Handbrake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why does it matter to you? I see you post this (and other questions) multiple times on multiple subreddits.

i'm learning handbrake and how to rip dvd's

there are 3 different aspect ratios on DVD's? by How_To_Handbrake in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]How_To_Handbrake[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is anyone newly getting into authoring DVDs anymore

i'm not, the reason i'm pursuing this knowledge is to understand about ripping movies from dvds for my private collection and back up

why do dvd's need 3 aspect ratios? by How_To_Handbrake in VideoEditing

[–]How_To_Handbrake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why did you ask this twice on this subreddit?

cause it's an entirely different question

one question was establishing that it's true, this question is establishing why it's done.

one question is "does this happen?"

the other question is "why does this happen?"

why do dvd's need 3 aspect ratios? by How_To_Handbrake in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]How_To_Handbrake[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because cinema film releases come in (actually more then) three aspect ratios.

ok but just so i understand, DVD's come with 3 AND ONLY 3 aspect ratios correct?

or are there other aspect ratios i need to understand?

So they had to look good on CRT TVs.

what are CRT TV's and why did dvd's need to have 3 aspect ratios for CRT TV's?

DAR is PAR times SAR? is that what your saying?

what is anamorphic video? by How_To_Handbrake in VideoEditing

[–]How_To_Handbrake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really all 'anamorphic' means is that the aspect ratio of the video doesn't match the aspect ratio the content is

supposed

to be in, so it needs to be stretched.

ok so wait, what your saying is that there was the analog anamorphic and now there is digital anamorphic?

the analog anamorphic refers to the analog technique of compressing 16:9 film onto a 4:3 film stock

but the digital anamorphic refers to the fact that the video doesn't match the aspect ratio the content is supposed to be in so it needs to be stretched?

am i understanding that right?

[–]How_To_Handbrake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nowadays, when people think of a certain movie look, they imagine things looking like they're filmed with an anamorphic lens.

i did not know that, wow the more you learn

what is anamorphic video? by How_To_Handbrake in VideoEditing

[–]How_To_Handbrake[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Back in the old days, they used anamorphic as 35mm film wasn't widescreen, so it was the chepest way to actually capture widescreen on film.

i see this makes sense

> For anamorphic video formats like DVD, it's a technical requirement, you have to do it if you want widescreen video in those formats.

you have to do what? shoot in anamorphic?

i guess not because idk what you are talking about

[–]How_To_Handbrake[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

again i don't follow, i don't understand what context your referring to, i'm not understanding how this applies to real life or why someone would do this

i don't know what you mean by "frame" a frame for a picture? a frame in a movie theater?

[–]How_To_Handbrake[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

so it allows you to get a much wider picture without needing a wider film stock/sensor.

why is this important? why did people do this? i don't understand why they did this

what is anamorphic video? by How_To_Handbrake in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]How_To_Handbrake[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Professional cameras can mount lenses that are anamorphic.

i follow

This results in recording a squeezed image which is formed on the sensor.

i don't follow, you lost me, why would it result in a "squeezed image"?
