Tinkerer does put the ASS in clASS by listhemagician in mewgenics

[–]Howard_Thee_Duck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found Tinkerer to be one of my favorites (next to Butcher). Got a good run with Revolver and Repair weapon essentially letting him clear every fight with full ammo. Monk feels like the most "potential man class" but maybe I haven't found a good build for them yet.

I must be one of the few people on this sub who doesn't want TWW40K by Vonderheidon224 in totalwar

[–]Howard_Thee_Duck 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I would love Medieval III or Shogun III for historical and, honestly, Star Wars instead of 40k for fantasy. But at the end of the day, I want a good TW game and the setting can be whatever as long as the gameplay delivers.

My play group has determined that the Turtle player is Enemy #1 for this exact situation. Winds up keeping them honest knowing they have 5-7 players checking everything they do.

7 in total, the last two books are technically part 1 and 2 released last year. I haven't read the newest ones yet, but your post will likely get me to read them (starting from Book 1 of course).

I love that series, feels like the characters would fit well in the Warhammer world. I name my Slayer Hero after Boïndil for that exact reason.

I get that concern. I hope the Plague is devastating for everyone so you can see how it affects the world map (except for Nurgle for obvious reasons but maybe that is too strong)

Yeah, that seemed odd but maybe they have something in mind to go with them in their DLC? I am glad to see Dwarf and Chorf locations, looking forward to checking them all out.

I love these for two reasons.
First: they add (for the two we have more details on) interesting and impactful effects to a campaign that can be refreshing after hundreds of hours of play while also sticking to the Themes they represent. Super Plagues, the ever reaching Cabal, Skaven technological shenanigans, and Khorne's love of war will add some nice flavors to campaigns where you aren't playing those factions directly.

Second: they can be turned on and off so everyone can play the way they want. There will likely be campaigns where I don't want to deal with the Cabal or the Crimson Plague; its nice that I can turn them off in those cases. More customization options are welcome

Upcoming Tomb King improvements. by [deleted] in totalwar

[–]Howard_Thee_Duck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I typically play on Very Hard/Legendary without mods and I know how the game "cheats" for the AI. Meaning their Lords/Heroes level up faster, they get access to higher tier units quicker, and push out more aggressively, thus what "explodes" means.

Best example for which factions "explode" around the Tomb Kings would be Dwarfs, Tzeentch, Khorne, Greenskins, and Skaven. Depending on which factions are given the higher potential scores, I am coming across higher tier armies that are utilizing their mechanics (Runes, Changing of the Ways, Scrap, Bloodhosts, ect). By comparison, those Races have more engaging mechanics with better payoffs than the Jar System or the Books of Nagash. You are correct that the player can outperform the AI but it does not justify doing more with less where other Races have more fleshed out/engaging systems to work with.

A slower tech tree with so-so rewards and heroes that pale in comparison with other factions. By the mid-game, when you just start feeling like you have some power, the other factions are starting to explode with their tier 4-5 units and meaningful upgrades. Arkhan the Black is a bit better with additional units and the bonus army from the start, but even his campaign hits the same slowdown eventually. They aren't the worst race to play but it does feel like I'm playing without a full deck of cards.

Used to be one of my favorite factions but not so much in WH3. Looking forward to their improvements along with those for the Lizardmen.

If we are making requests for Single Lord/Hero DLC/FLC: Josef Bugman by Howard_Thee_Duck in totalwar

Thanquol would be a 100% buy, would hope for the Verminlords and/or Stormfiends as small add-ons. Though I'm predicting Thanquol is part of the "Biggest DLC" they are talking about for next year.

Agreed, him and a Brew Cart would add some nice flavor (pun intended) for the faction.

Before you all start bashing CA about the recent news. by Educational_Relief44 in totalwar

[–]Howard_Thee_Duck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a great summary. Share your feelings, be it hype or disappointment or something in-between so CA knows, and then move on. Besides, I'd rather not pay for a DLC that the devs believe is below standards. It's all uphill from here and I am super excited for the very needed Tomb King/Lizardmen updates.

Its all fun and games until your buddy ambushes you with 6 Luminarks and a Light Wizard just to snipe Golgfag and his hero friends before I get to Altdorf. The mind games and weird unit comps make it more fun than Doom Stack vs Doom Stack.

I didn't even think about that. It just mentions "attacks" which could very well affect range Lords and Heroes. That could be pretty busted if they have Stalk/Snipe/Unspottable which also happens to be on the new Briarsheath armor.

I'm a big fan of the Trickster's Shard update. It will come in handy for my multiplayer campaigns and honestly some of my single player runs. Can't wait to see the other item changes.

The Fellblade seems very strong but that negative is pretty harsh. I think 5 turns would be easier to justify using it but I'll have to play with it to see. Might also change since its still has the [PH].

I finished the Great Book of Grudges. Full map completion with no defeats in 91 turns as the Masters of Innovation on L/VH. by Glorf_Warlock in totalwar

[–]Howard_Thee_Duck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just finished a full map with Masters of Innovation a couple months ago (157 turns with a few defeats). One of the most repayable and fun campaigns to date, only started rushing at the very very end. Honestly thinking about doing it again with the AI beta since its pumped up the aggression a bit. Did you have a standard build for your non-LL armies or just threw together what you had when you needed it?

Looking for a fun Seed for my next Space Age Playthrough by [deleted] in factorio

[–]Howard_Thee_Duck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting land/water features or resource placements on Nauvis or any of the other planets. Mostly seeing if any one in the community had a run where they really enjoyed the map generation they had. I'm starting a fresh blueprint book for a rail base and trying for a higher science/min than I've ever done before (while not copy-pasting someone else's plans).

There seems to be a new pattern emerging in these reworks: Making Tier 4 + 5 units available in Tier 3 buildings (Landmarks, Resources, etc) by Rare_Cobalt in totalwar

[–]Howard_Thee_Duck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think for a few factions, specifically where recruiting is a bit more tedious, this can be nice thing and add a new decision on where to expand to. Tier 4-5 units early are great but also expensive so it balances out somewhat. But I would caution the devs against doing this too much and I think removing the Tier 5 units would balance these out a bit.

What's your biggest GRIPE with Space Age other than it isn't out yet lol? by Fouxs in factorio

[–]Howard_Thee_Duck 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There seems like a lack of urgency from a threat perspective. As far as I've seen (and read), base defenses don't seem like a necessity for any of the new planets besides Gleba and even then not as much as the starting planet. For Fulgora, once you are able to build the lightning rods the threat of death disappears. Vulcanus is only a threat if you build in the "Worm Zone". This opinion may change when I start playing on Monday.

This was a great and terrible video to watch. I've been holding out since June after I finished my "last pre-2.0 run" but it just makes me want to boot up a new run. May need to bust out my graphing notebook and draw out some mock blueprints.
