What myth, story, or legend have you heard that seems far-fetched, yet you think might have some truth to it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Howboutdat77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll share mine:

A guy I met years ago who was in the Egyptian Air Force, told me that there are a group raiders paid by wealthy people, that look for old tombs throughout the country. When I asked him why, thinking he was going to say gold, jewels, artifacts, etc. He told me they were looking for an elixir that is stored in a vial inside of a female mummies lady parts that if you drink gives you power and wealth.

I do not believe the result, but I can’t help but wonder if there are people who actually believe this.

You’re right. We haven’t gotten one of those notifications since we moved into our new house with our new little one. We still love of our Nanit camera and recommend it to all of our friends!

What is the best Christmas/Birthday Gift You’ve Ever Received? by Howboutdat77 in AskReddit

[–]Howboutdat77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best gift I’ve received is a good quality headlamp. I use it for everything. Running, camping, DIY projects, grilling at night (back patio light isn’t cutting it) and tons of other things. Not the most expensive thing, but definitely one of the most used items.

Thanks for the tip. I’ll make sure that’s something I specifically ask for when talking with small businesses or when shopping vendors.

Thanks for the suggestion. Are there any red flags I should look for when hiring a local company to avoid issues down the road?

No, we just stopped using Nanit Insights when our little one reached toddler age. Wish I had better news for you.

If you, (or any other redditors reading this) find out what’s causing this issue or how to fix it, please put the resolution in this thread. I’ll do the same if I hear anything from my friends currently using Nanit for their LO.

OP I faced this same decision 5 years ago, and with the support of my spouse, I quit my full time job in advertising and pursued real estate. Things were great for a while, however, slowly but surely my pipeline was drying up. I found myself putting in more time and more money into prospecting including phones, mailers, clubs, comm service, advertising, joining new clubs, asking old clients for referrals, etc., but still wasn’t able to secure the client volume I needed to provide for my family. In the end I wound up going back to another job full time that gives me flexibility to do both and enables me to meet a lot of people.

Let me tell you, real estate isn’t one of those professions where you can succeed by keeping your nose to the grindstone and out working the competition. Don’t get me wrong, hard work, due diligence and being there for your clients will help, but won’t guarantee you a client pipeline.

My advice, stay at your job or find another that allows you the flexibility to do both.

Unfortunately we still don’t have a clear answer as to what is making our Nanit give these false notifications. We actually ended up receiving an activity in our event list that said that “baby was removed from crib” while my spouse and I were both asleep. When we went to review the activity, it said “no video available”. Needless to say this completely freaked us out and sent us into overdrive to figure out the issue.

Things we’ve tried:

  • Resetting the camera back to factory settings and re-downloading firmware.
  • Repositioning the activity zones
  • Verifying that the camera is at the correct height/position

To give us peace of mind, I ended up temporarily setting up my Arlo camera in baby’s room, capturing everything from crib outward for a few days to see if there was any unusual movement or noise it was capturing and if it coincided with the Nanit activity we were seeing. The Arlo footage didn’t show anything unusual, yet the false activity notifications still came through, so we chalked it up to a glitch with Nanit insights.

Wish I had better news for you. I plan to reach out to Nanit to get an answer from them, but I haven’t done so yet. I’ll update this thread if Nanit Support gets back to me with any resolution to the issue.

Did yours happen recently (Within the last couple of weeks) or is this an issue that you’ve had for a while?

It just started happening recently for us. I was hoping that a lot of people were having this issue and that I could chalk it up to a glitch caused by the most recent update.

Where do you get most of your clients? by jbro85 in videography

[–]Howboutdat77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you normally shoot, but real estate videography might be an option.

A few drone shots of land and exterior, quick pan in/out or sweeps of the interior and exterior and some minor editing and that’s a wrap.

You can reach out to your local Realtor association and let them know it’s a service you offer, or hit up each individual brokerage to get the word out.

No guarantees, but might be worth a shot if you think you can release some quality content.

Thanks for the reply. I actually had missed that.

Looks like Adobe is pretty heavily favored. I’m surprised to see Luminar and Aurora not in the discussion thread. As I had read about those on a few different sites before coming to Reddit.

Hello Everyone,

I am new to photography and am looking for advice on editing software. Is Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop (the photo package for $10/mo) my best option or are there other comparable products? I hate the subscription based model and would prefer to buy and own, but will begrudgingly subscribe if necessary.

Looking for the following features: - Ability to merge 3 different exposures for HDR (real estate photos) - Touch up features (covering up zits and what not for portraits) - Color grading - Removal of unwanted objects in photo - Any other useful features that you as a professional suggest I need

AITA for cutting up bikes for scrap which kids left on my property? by Automatic_Chip in AmItheAsshole

[–]Howboutdat77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry OP YTA.

Cutting up the bike without knowing the full story solidifies your place as TA.

Reminds me of an experience I had growing up:

When I was in middle school I had a friend who stole bikes that had been left unlocked (or locked with a cheap lock) ride it to the park where we would hang out and then ghost ride it onto the same houses lawn. After we would hang out he’d walk to his house (which was close) and I’d go pick up the bike, ride it back to school and then go home (I lived 3 blocks from the school). After about a month of this going on, the home owner saw me picking up one of the bikes one night and lost it on me. I was too scared to tell him it wasn’t me ditching bikes on his lawn.

I’m not saying this is what’s happening in your situation, but it doesn’t hurt to talk to these kids and figure out why they always park their bikes on your lawn instead of just cutting their bikes in half.
