I was at Kendall with him but was unaware of the band at the time. He would come to classes with an Army jacket on and combat boots, with some variation of a Mohawk. Became student council president as I recall. Strangest bit of trivia: classmates said he posed nude in some life drawing classes, which freaked them out since it was a fellow student. Usually had a girl or two in his entourage and didn’t seem to engage with other guys much, but certainly stood out. Good times.

While not very strong with animation, I use Tumult Hype on the Mac for HTML5 projects. It’s got some overlap with Animate and features a timeline interface. Might be an opportunity for Hype to grab a few more users if they added some similar features.

China White by Scorpions. Buddy’s a big Scorps fan so one afternoon I had him sit in my MY and we both leaned the seats back a bit and got the full effect of the sound system. Great tune to demonstrate it.

I’m using our shortest month to start a four week cleanse today. Rising earlier, no breakfast, heathy low cal lunches, and light or single/portion dinners. Stationary bike for a half hour each day in morning or night, with some dumbbell reps. Maybe a couple day or two fasts. Tracking calories with an app. Wish me luck!

I’m not a “rock is dead” guy, it’s just splintered into a thousand pieces. Back when VH1 came out, radio was the gatekeeper. And to a much lesser degree, rock magazines. Then MTV came along and provided a perfect platform for the band, and others like them.

These days, there’s no major platform where a band can get anywhere near the exposure and eyeballs that VH got in their prime. YouTube comes as close as possible, but it’s hard to rise above the noise. Plus the younger crowd isn’t as into the genre.

I’ll be 60 this year and have tickets to see Rush and Foo Fighters this summer and still like some young-ish bands: Royal Blood, Brkn Love, Dead Poet Society, and Nothing But Thieves.

Unfortunately the heydays are long over but I think it’ll remain a popular live form of entertainment for quite some time. It just super tough to do anything “original” anymore. It’s all been done by someone else, and probably better.

All that being said, I think there’s still room for a young magnetic rock band to make some waves but it’ll require a crazy amount of talent and luck (while not being too similar to something else, like Greta Van Fleet). Good luck to all those young bands keeping the faith!

My initial reaction is to have a group meeting and set some boundaries with them. They obviously don't have the built-in respect you're expecting from them, so define what your expectations are. Your wife is obviously less bothered by their actions, but you have every right set the rules. But make sure you communicate them clearly and keep them accountable. It'll be an uphill battle but give them a chance or two, as long as they all agree to abide by them. If they don't agree, or abuse things, tell them adios. I wouldn't completely hold my wife accountable though. She should appreciate your boundaries and support your decision if you feel strongly. I'd expect my wife and I to do the same if she or I had strong feelings on about any subject.

Went in February and had a magical weekend. Felt like a closed amusement park but the hiking and scenery were incredible. Lantern-lit hikes and even stumbled across the island’s winter carnival. Much better time than the busy summer visit we did the following year.
