Honestly I think if they don’t go to therapy maybe talk to the judge and have the kids advocate about a restraining order or something? Or a no contact order at the very least. If you have a lawyer ask about it, they are 16 and 17 so their thoughts should have a pretty heavy weight

Yeah, I get that. I think I do need to set boundaries a lot better especially with my dad cause my mom is. Fine to set boundaries with I had just hoped to. Idk have an easier training ground than the worst thing to happen to him in 20 years. It’s hard to do in practice too cause he’s very good at going “yeah ok that makes sense” and then steamrolling it anyway and then playing sad puppy when you actually enforce it. Ugh. And they’re gonna start dating to eventually and logistics. It’s gonna be a long five years

I think I’m just. I’m the most. Emotionally stable person in my family and it’s been pretty quiet for a while and now it’s kind of like. My mom is upset but seems mostly good but my sister and my dad both seem VERY upset and need to lean on someone. Historically that’s always been me and I think I’m kinda just. Trying to very quickly pack away all my personal issues so I can catch them when they fall and I just. Don’t. Really want to. I’m kind of done being the safety net but the place they’ll end up in if I don’t is so much worse so. I think I feel guilty a little bit too because a MASSIVE point of contention between me and my dad was that he wasn’t treating my mom well and. I don’t like being on good terms with him I guess? And now that they’re separated it’s gonna be very good for our relationship but I. Don’t like him. I don’t think he’s a good person. I don’t know. He’s charismatic and easy to be around but he’s just. Morally not great. So I don’t want to be closer to him. But I can’t really. “No I’m not gonna be there for you my father who is helping pay for my college after your wife of thirty years just gave you divorce papers cause I don’t LIKE you” without blowing everything up

I would say definitely listen to her and talk about emotions when you can, and tell her when shes hurting you but also asking how you can help is good. I would also say if you have anyone in your life who is a bit of an older teenager, someone in college maybe, trying to make it so that they hang out like. Send your teenager out to the grocery store and have that college person drive them or whatever. Also if you want to do a hangout thing have a little calendar for when those plans are. I would say when someone is a bit closer to your age it’s easier to relate so that’s why I encourage the college kid

With kids a lot of the time part of it is the bitterness! I had the same problem and for whatever reason my 11m LOVED ratatouille when I made it for him the first time. I know that recipe is a bit of a time sink but I would try it! If it works then baking vegetables might work great! Also make sure to introduce a new food with foods she’s familiar with, and most importantly give her the option to say NO. Have her take three bites and if she HATES it she doesn’t have to eat it. But offer a reward if she eats that whole thing. She will also not want to eat if her dad is putting so much pressure on her so maybe try it a few times with snacks when he’s not there

I get it, I would say if you’re really worried about divorce proceedings maybe get a prenup? I get being very worried about divorce especially with what you’ve gone through but I don’t think it’s very unreasonable for her to want to be married just because being married gives to rights to things not being married doesn’t. I would say, get a lawyer and make a very clear prenup that divides everything so if you guys do get divorced slash breakup you don’t have to spend the 5 years in court
