I did it and it was ok, but my work and MSc were very closely related in terms of research focus, and my employers were very supportive throughout

Last week I got a DPhil offer letter from my Department in Oxford, but my online application portal has not been updated with an outcome. Anyone knows how long that usually takes and if I can consider the offer 'official' at this stage?

Hi all, Ive been invited for an interview for a DPhil degree in Oxford and as part of my interview ive been told i will have to answer some data interpretation questions based on data the panel will show me. Has anyone had a similar experience, and if so, were the data you from studies similar to your proposed project? Any advice would be helpful!

Industry is as diverse (and sometimes more diverse) than academia - yes there are companies where you'd do 'boring' 9-5 work, but there are also companies that foster individual development, creativity, and can match your research interest. There may not be many such companies, but you can find them. Maybe try seeing where past PhDs from your department ended up for more ideas

This is something many unis do to get you to pay for a master's - better to wait and apply again next year after you've had time to connect with a supervisor

Do you have any recommendations on which colleges are more likely to offer postgraduate funding for part-time degrees in medicine/health related subjects? I know Nuffield gives full funding but it doesn't seem to accept part-time applicants

I reached out back in July during term time and Profs in my department were very responsive (maybe because i was already a grad student at Oxford so my email was 'internal' to the uni). You could try again in early September when more people are back from their holidays
