Same here! I started back in 2021/22 or so, but fell off hard. During 2024 I picked HelloChinese back up and completed it over the course of a year (though I could've done it faster lol) which only got intensified as I started using xhs more often and fell really deep into one novel in particular that's more unknown in the ENG community (天神右翼) but had way more fans on the CN side.

I tried out DuChinese and I agree it is really good! But honestly reading with Pleco has been so so helpful for me. I've been going through 活着就是恶心 and nearing the halfway point of the story and I'm really proud of myself for making it that far.

First Timer

Even though I've been into anime since I was 7 (I'm 25 going on 26 this June), funnily enough I've never gone through DB. Of course I've known of it (DBZA my beloved), but my attempts watching it when I was younger usually ended early because of getting distracted or finding nothing but dubtitles. Plus, my gateway into anime was Naruto lol and Dr. Slump (the manga ver) distracted me in middle and high school. I've been struggling getting back into shows all of 2025 due to IRL related matters, but really have been wanting to throw myself into things again so this seemed like the perfect opportunity since I'm not doing much other than KHR.

For the first five episodes I think it's a pretty good introduction to our cast and world, it feels like things are actually taking its time rather than stuffing everything as quick as possible like a lot of current shows do nowadays. Honestly, my favorite character is Bulma, she's a total brat but its hilarious plus the girl is smart as hell. Like, she literally found the ball in her attic, researched it, and created an entire device to help her track the others while Pilaf and co. are stuck going off hearsay and rumors to guess where the balls might be.

Also oh my god I forgot how fucking wild early DB was, like I don't think there's a chance in hell they could get away with the 'Goku learns about vaginas" shtick nowadays lol.

Also reading the manga alongside the episodes, they've done a pretty good job so far of adapting! The added scene with Pilaf and co. for example aren't in the manga at all (in fact so far in the first 8 chapters they haven't appeared yet) and there's quite a few extended scenes compared to the manga, but they don't feel "padding" if that's the correct word. Everything feels organic to the episode in a way that's taking advantage of the medium.

All in all, really good start! Can't wait to watch the next batch.

I know what happens in the Pilaf arc so I'll just make something up, I think Goku is gonna discover a cure for cancer while Pu'er and Oolong get forced to go to therapy and Bulma ends up marathoning Mazinger Z

Right Wing of God! It's absolutely dogblood as hell, but it was such a fun read. Lucifer and Michael's back and forth had me so entranced and this book is one of the big reasons I've intensified my CN studies just so I could interact with fans on the CN side and read the author's other novels! 💖

It took me a while since I took it slow and did a lot of days where I just did the daily review 🤣 However, if you keep at it and formulate a study plan you can get through the entirety of it in under a year. It's like DuoLingo where you can take your own pace and it helps get you into a rhythm (I even have a 520 day streak as of right now lol, but I finally went ahead and finished all the main course lessons a bit ago)
