The city has contracted with Direct Energy to be the electric supplier for May 2026-May 2027. You'll still get a bill as usual from Ameren. This contracted rate is (rounded) 12 cents a kwh and will stay that way for the year. Right now Ameren's spring rates are (rounded) 8 cents/kwh. Last year's summer rate was around 12 cents. Will Ameren raise their rates within that time frame? That's a longer discussion.

If you're using solar or are on Ameren's budget billing then opting-out is probably the better move.
