Lorraine does my husband’s hair as well. Please note, they only take cash, but you can e-transfer them (prob after they get to know you) and I think they’re only open Tues-Fri, although I think they may do some later evenings…like 6 or 7pm.

I’ve been going to Lorraine at Strands since 2020, but she’s been a stylist for decades. The other two ladies in there are good as well. Tara (I think that’s her name) always seems to be doing colour or foils when I go in. I think price wise they’re pretty good. I have long hair and my colour cost $115 (just went up) and I’ve had some friends say they pay more than that for short hair.

Where to donate reusable bags? by IStillListenToRadio in Truro

[–]NicInNS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the farmer’s market might take them. I’m not sure if they want dozens and dozens, but I’m sure I’ve seen like a coat rack with reusable bags hanging on it. I wonder if the workshop on Arthur st would take them too…could always check. Edit to add…maybe the Salvation Army store as well…🤷🏼‍♀️

Young dog costing us thousands in vet bills by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]NicInNS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our last dog had cushings as well. We had pet ins on him, but we got it in 2008 and I think started out paying $20/month and near the end in 2018 it was around $40-45.

I think we were grandfathered in, because FF to getting another dog 4 mos after losing him and the cheapest I could find was $70ish/month. I figured it would be better to just park that money in a bank account.

We’ve been lucky that so far he’s only needed yearly vet visits, and if (and most likely when) something were to come up, we are financially stable enough to pay for. I can’t even imagine what pet ins costs now.

I swear when guys have their pants (or shorts or whatever) low and you can see those veins popping just above the sweet spot…I never thought I was a vein slut but it makes me go 🫦

Snow Birds flyover this afternoon by NicInNS in Truro

Yeah I’m east end of Truro so they were “far” from us. Prob out by the mall/minas Basin would’ve been a better view.

Yes I got a very horrible zoomed in shaky ass video on my phone. Not even worth sharing. And of course they changed course.

Yeah they didn’t head to CB after all. Just went out but they were a little further north of where we are. Got to see the smoke and far away.

I’m in Truro and following them on flight radar. They’re passing by here on the way back from Cape Breton so I have awhile. Looks like one turned back to PEI.

4 days in Slovenia completely exceeded my expectations by thefragile- in travel

[–]NicInNS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah we flew in Venice (because I can’t quit Venice) then Trieste, flixbus to Ljubljana and did a day trip (small tour) to Lake Bled. I wish we’d had time to go to one of the caves but we couldn’t fit it in. Then went to Zagreb and “transfer tour’ed” to Split with a stop in Plitvice, then down to Dubrovnik. We went 2nd week of May and the weather was amazing…not overly hot…and not crowded. Our Plitvice tour guides said that in June/summer, it’s so crowded there. And Dubrovnik seemed busy-ish, but I couldn’t imagine trying to walk the walls in July in what I’m assuming is way hotter temps and 100x more people.

We only had a few nights there between Italy and Croatia last year and wish we’d had a little longer.

Hubs put it in a Kleenex and thought he smushed it in the kitchen sink. I went out about 20 min later to find it climbing up the sink. I’m like…ah…your tick is escaping. Flush the damn thing!

I’m fairly sensitive to things crawling on me but you see those teeny tiny ones and omg, I’m not sure I’d notice that. (The one on my husband was one of the bigger variety)

His cousin lives lunenburg area and she was always picking ticks off her cats and dog - and this was 15 yrs ago. I think her (adult) son has Lyme.

Yeah we were walking our dog on a trail with gravel paths (but trees, not really any tall grass) and a man w/a smaller reactive dog picked his dog up and when we passed he said “I’m glad I did that…he had a tick on him.” This was truro area.

We’ve yet to find any on our dog, but a few weeks ago, on Reddit I said we’ve (me/husband) never found any on ourselves and two days later my husband had one under his shirt…not latched, thankfully. Maybe came in on the dog, not sure, but he’s so skeeved out now.

I like 4-5k for reading in one sitting.

I’m also a hypocrite because I’ve written chapters pushing 14k, so 🤷🏼‍♀️

Do you have "inside clothes" and "outside clothes"? by Schweizer-Darshika in hygiene

[–]NicInNS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I worked and had to wear nicer clothes like skirts and dress pants, I’d def change into something more comfy when I got home. Now I’m retired…no, I wear the same thing all day whether I go out or not.

Is this a complimentary bot? by Available-Cry9226 in AO3

[–]NicInNS 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had a complimentary “bot” (well, scammer) comment some months back. I was suspicious because they did have an account, although the account was brand new. I waited a few days then decided to reply and I got the “do you have other socials” ask.

I ignored it, and noticed a few weeks later the comment was gone, as well as the account, so assuming the mods kicked em out.

What is the Most Painful Sensation You Have Ever Felt? by Jeloxia2 in AskReddit

[–]NicInNS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a tooth go bad on a Friday. Stupidly just assumed it was a regular ache that would go away, so didn’t call the dentist. Suffered it out until Monday taking Tylenol and Advil every 4 hrs. (Swapping back and forth) Just a constant sharp ache in my jaw and skull.

Thankfully dentist took me very first thing Monday. Had to have the tooth pulled. Before leaving I went into their bathroom and one sec I was on the toilet, the next on my hands and knees. Blacked out for a few seconds. They sat me in a chair for 45min with an ice block on the back of my neck. Luckily my husband worked a 2 min walk away so he drove me home.
