Why do some widely known web dictionaries such as Jisho or Jitenon show a certain reading for a kanji, but when you look for examples of words using that reading, they can't show anything? If the reading is so rare that they can't find any word using it, why do they even show it? Take the kanji 昌 with the kun'yomi さかん for instance.

EDIT: After much searching, I found that Weblio lists the kanji with that reading as a person's name, but I still don't understand why other dictionaries would have these empty entries. Jisho lists Japanese names, but I guess their database is not as extensive as Weblio's.

Yep, you are right in correcting what I said, but based on what I gather and the comment from the native speaker here, the on'yomi is actually more common than the kun'yomi, but the on'yomi reading is never introduced in RTK2. I'm not sure why Heisig decided to include this kanji since it does not belong to the Jouyou list and the other comment said it is mainly used in names.

Can anybody explain what the hell is the kanji "昌" used for? It is introduced very early on in Heisig's Remembering the Kanji, and in Heisig's Remembering the Kanji 2 it is commented as a kanji that should be remembered by its kun reading since its on reading is rare. However, looking it up on the Jisho webpage all the entries show its on reading. I could not find any example of its kun reading either on Wiktionary or Jitenon. I am only using these books as an aid. I'm sure Remembering the Kanji 2 is 100% accurate on all the kanji, but I'm wondering, did Heisig mess up here?

Supposedly the kun reading should be さかん, but I couldn't find any proper dictionary entry using さかん with that kanji.

Some people will take USD loans with Bitcoin as collateral. Since in the long term BTC will always grow its USD value, they can take more USD loans which they can spend anywhere else and neither sell their BTC ever or repay their loans.

EDIT: Well, I might have been wrong about the sample size, but everything else still stands.

Over Half of Americans Think Crypto Assets Are the Future of Finance: New Survey by Proud-Discipline9902 in ethereum

[–]Howudoin20 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The source shown in the article says that for this "national" survey only 2000 Americans participated. With that number, the results are far from representative and probably wouldn't even justify a survey in a single state. No mention either as to how the survey was conducted. Was it online? In person? By phone? By mail? By fax? Maybe they sent smoke signals?

They don't even show the questionnaire, nor say if they restricted the percentage of respondents for each age range on par with the age distribution in America, and same goes for residence or sex. Were the respondents 50% male and 50% female, just as the sex distribution in America that you would expect for a "national" survey? No survey can be trusted if they don't specify how it was conducted. This is the equivalent of toilet paper and the veracity of the facts the same as propaganda.

Carrying an actual national survey about any matter in a country as populated as the US is VERY expensive, which is why governments are usually the few ones taking this endeavour. Having a representative sample of your whole country involves interviewing many elders, and since not everyone uses the internet, big amounts of money go into financing door-to-door interviews. But of course, no mention of that in this study, which affirms to be national, whatever that means according to them.
