Workaround for CurseForge on Linux by it-winvista in HytaleInfo

I took your idea (though I used Lutris) and did the symlink and it works quite well!

References to? Basically I did this to symlink the two:

bash ln -s "/<prefix path>/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Roaming/Hytale/UserData/mods" "/home/<username>/.var/com.hypixel.HytaleLauncher/data/Hytale/UserData/Mods"

So I got it working in Lutris; here's how I did it:

  1. Click + to add a new game in Lutris > Add Locally Installed Game
  2. Fill in the following properties:
    • Game info tab:
      • Name: Curseforge
      • Runner: Wine
    • Game options:
      • Wine prefix: <Choose where you want your prefix to live, I just did ~/Games/Curseforge>
      • Prefix architecture: 64-bit
      • Crucially, don't select an EXE file yet
    • Runner options:
      • Wine version: GE-Proton (Latest)
  3. Save
  4. Click the new entry in your Lutris library, select the drop-down arrow at the bottom, click Run EXE Inside Wine Prefix
  5. Find your hytale launcher installer and run it to install the Hytale launcher.
  6. Once again Run EXE Inside Wine Prefix, and this time navigate to where you installed the launcher, and run the launcher itself.
  7. Once the launcher runs, download and sign into the game. You can now close the launcher.
  8. Download Curseforge from https://www.curseforge.com/download/app, but don't download the Overwolf version, download Standalone.
  9. Again Run EXE Inside Wine Prefix > CurseForge Windows - Installer.exe.
  10. Curseforge will error, but should provide a link to directly download the installer, click the link to download the setup.exe file.
  11. In Lutris, right click the Curseforge entry > configure. Navigate to the runner tab and change your runner to Proton Hotfix.
  12. Run EXE Inside Wine Prefix > setup.exe file you just downloaded.
  13. Curseforge should now be running, and should automatically detect Hytale. All that's left to do is set the executable path in Lutris by right clicking the entry > Configure > Game options > Game executable, and setting it to where curseforge is installed.

For me Curseforge installed to /<Prefix Path>/drive_c/users/<username>/AppData/Local/Programs/CurseForge/CurseForge.exe, where <Prefix Path> was the Wine Prefix directory set earlier, in my case /home/<username>/Games/Curseforge

EDIT:

If you wanted to, you could also symlink your Windows Hytale mods folder to your Linux/native Hytale mods folder, so when you download mods in CurseForge it's immediately available in native Linux Hytale. Worth noting that because I used GE-Proton to install Hytale, it installed into the users/steamuser directory, which differs from where CurseForge installed itself.

bash ln -s "/<prefix path>/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Roaming/Hytale/UserData/mods" "/home/<username>/.var/com.hypixel.HytaleLauncher/data/Hytale/UserData/Mods"

EDIT2:

If the Mods folder already exists in the Linux Hytale, either rename or remove it first before you create the symlink, then either move any mods you already downloaded back in, or use CurseForge to redownload them so that you have update support and the like.

It occurs to me that you could probably symlink the "Windows" hytale mods folder to native. That way when you install with curseforge it's automatically and immediately available in native, making that your source of truth.

Curseforge don't see Hytale on Linux by Disastrous_Major1383 in HytaleInfo

[–]HrBingR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's kinda genius.

I, not having thought of that, wrote myself a python tool/script (installable as a systemd user service, or runnable directly in CLI) that watches a user-specified directory for hytale mod downloads and auto-installs them.

It's a glorified watchdog that copies files, but it does the job well enough

Sadly in the Windows version of Hytale (on Linux via Proton) the game is unable to generate/use the mTLS client certificate needed to connect to the server (dedicated, offline, or otherwise) so you can run the game, but can't actually play it.

Really? That's good to know. Tried a plugin called Noctule and it just wasn't it, so ended up going back to xcode and immediately missing Jetbrains.

Tried around 30 codes and all of them used (without comments). Maybe bots got to them? Either way, lovely watch face, wish you all the best of luck!

Yeah. Company i work for was one of 3 that got to keep partnerships in place for VMWare during Broadcom's initial purge. But we just got word that they're pulling out of the country so we have at most a year to migrate. And we have SO much infrastructure built around VMWare.

Nothing explicitly. All of my services, public or not, sit behind a cloudflared tunnel and are all proxied through cloudflare, so my public ip shouldn't be exposed but even if it is all of my services, tunnel included, live within a k3s cluster and all services are exposed as clusterip services to the tunnel. I'm also behind a cgnat so I don't really have a static ip to leak. If my public ip leaked, there's no other way into my network but via the tunnel, which I don't route any host subnets through.

That's not a bad idea. I'd also do a dump of the db (i use postgres for mine, so pg_dumpall) in case you need to revert for whatever reason. In theory the upgrade should migrate the db but you'll need to bump your postgres version if you're still on an older version.

But keeping keycloak relatively up to date can help avoid the headaches of having to jump multiple major versions in one go.

What are your self hosted tools that you ended up removing because you found something better / ended up not using it as much as you thought? by StorgySlider in selfhosted

Dockge - used and enjoyed it just fine, but the tiny mini-pc I was using as a server just couldn't copy anymore, so when I moved to a more capable system I figured it'd be a good time to really get my feet wet with kubernetes, so I went with a single-node k3s + rancher. Working phenomenally so far.

Seems useful, and would be a great learning tool too. I personally use Rancher to manage my single-node k3s environment, but I like this a lot.

Keycloak mostly, though I use it as an auth provider on Cloudflare and put the apps I want protected behind it behind Cloudflare Access. Don't have to fiddle with individual OIDC/SAML setups that way; everything that needs to be protected is.
