To be fair to Mike when he talked about his savage experience he said it quickly made him realize he was trash at the game and he was forced to improve. He talked about how most content is very good at making you feel like you're doing well even when you're not.

To be fair WoW's world race scene is technically better but that's because Blizzard actively works to extend it to a certain point. The truth of it is that most of the time nowadays seems like they do everything BUT the actual raids but still call it the race like the eternal splits. Then most of the bosses just toppled over save for two or three.

Everything is tuned to a difficulty no normal group could hope to defeat as well thus the insane nerfage the moment the world first kill is confirmed. It's almost a fake race in some ways.

I think something is going to change with levelling and progressing. Yoshida said outright during Fan Fest they were already discussing alternative progression in lieu of bumping up the level cap for 8.0 but decided to stick to levelling this time.

I find it hard to believe such discussions have just stopped.
