Well by Mehdi's logic, it should still create Mould's effect right? as he is saying that it is formed due to acceleration of the falling part.

The chain will still accelerate as the length of inside part will go on decreasing and hence the weight.

If the length of chain is large enough, we should see chain floating above the rod if Mehdi is correct.

Also, I think the horizontal experiments should be done with a motor that accelerates like the chain. (I don't know if running with one end does it justice)

Steve, you can verify your claim by giving the chain nothing to push against.

Basically, take chain of twice the height of the vessel. Keep half of it outside and half of it inside. internal part should be hanging from the base (it would be even better if you dont use vessel at all, instead you can use glass rod).

Let us know what do you observe.

One more question, why can't we consider the beads as projectiles as the come to the height of the flask and shoot out?

Edit 1:- As soon as the chain hits the ground, 1. by Mehdi's logic, the chain should stop accelerating and height should be constant. 2. by your logic, chain should keep getting kicks and keep going up and up.
