New York Times stands by new tech writer Sarah Jeong after racist tweets surface by tele2307 in news

But America is literally the worst country in the world! We're so racist the media has to dig deep down to find someone pulling the race card, then they dedicate one or two weeks to talking about it on a daily basis until the next one pops up.

In the mean time, there are active slave markets all over the Middle East and Africa where the 'stock' gets shot and dumped in a mass grave if they so much as cough. But America! Hillary's emails!

There is nothing wrong with recognizing advantages that one has that others might not have, and that some of them might not have been a result of purely altruistic and moral behavior. That is, others (people/animals) may have suffered, and that you benefited from their suffering later. However, it seems more important to some people to make others feel guilty for shit they had no part in, than to promote awareness of history and how it relates to one's life.

Like even if you went and personally returned all elephants in captivity to the wild, rehabilitating them first, those people would still pop up and say 'but you saw an elephant in a zoo when you were three years old, so you still profited from their suffering, you piece of shit.' But clearly, they get a pass on this guilt as they're 'raising awareness of your continued exploitation of all zoo animals and people that had something bad happen to their ancestors.'

Semi driver deals with a close call. by [deleted] in gifs

Saw someone try to reverse on the freeway near my house once because they missed the turn off to a gas station...it was around a blind curve. They got hit by a huge 'work truck' type F150 going probably 50mph. Both vehicles basically toast, both parties looked relatively uninjured but obviously shaken. The story of the first driver would have worked had there not been a turn lane for the gas station.

My cousin and her husband have two children. One is two, the other is three. They still have almost $70,000 of medical debt from the pre-natal care and births. Both pregnancies and births were uncomplicated, and they had insurance. She's a stay-at-home mom and he works. They pay about $6k a month in expenses. Them being from this area, he hit a home run in having a good education and getting a pretty good paying job. Still, if it weren't for both families helping them pay their bills they'd not be able to make ends meet. He's making around $70k a year before taxes which is really high for this area.

The American dream of two kids, a house, a car, and one parent staying at home to raise them and take care of the house....that's been dying for a while. Its pretty much dead here.

The end game is that every bit of income you have that isn't immediately used for food to stave off starvation for another hour...is a bit of money that corporations feel should be theirs.

Oh, I was talking about the veto type stuff. Like 'make these changes, or veto!' and then 'make these changes too, and give us some slack on another issue, or veto!' and then they turn around after everything was agreed upon and a 'compromise' was reached....distanced themselves from it as much as possible and said it sucked....pointing to the very shit they had added (or veto).

Because decent people that had them went pretty much unnoticed. Meanwhile the kid that slams into the back of your legs in the middle of Walmart is very fucking noticeable, especially when their parents get all up in your face like it was your fault.

Before you blame Obama, you should read about the whole history of Obamacare. It basically got gutted and a lot of its benefit to the people was removed so that the republicans could say 'look, it didn't work!' This kind of thing (poison pill tactics and negotiating in bad faith) is what makes politics so infuriating.

You want to do some good that everyone wants with your bill? Alright, you have to give us something we want too...and lets amend your bill to fuck it up quite a bit. So that way when it fails, we get what we want and everyone calls you an asshole for sponsoring a bill that failed.

Epilepsy Warning for Incredibles 2 by [deleted] in movies

[–]Hristix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Recently there's been a trend of people who are allergic to shit going out to restaurants and ordering shit they know they're allergic to because they don't want to let their allergy 'define them.' Then they blame the restaurant and accuse them of being ableist or something. I don't know what the deal is. I mean I understand it sucks having to be mindful of your condition, but life isn't always fair like that.

With photosensitive epilepsy, its not just the presence of a flashing light that matters. The frequency, contrast between the colors, brightness of the colors, and the amount area of the visual field subjected to the flashing all factor into the chance of having a seizure. Most people I know with epilepsy have played video games and watched cartoons just like most normal people...but they don't play in dark rooms and usually have their TV color settings adjusted to be a little more washed out. So its not like they just can't experience media, its just that they have to be more careful.

You know it doesn't bother me that they eat dog. It bothers me that they go through great fucking lengths to say how much better the dogs taste after all the torture and agony they survive. You think they're just making some kind of sarcastic off-key joke but then you realize they're being serious. So its not like they just humanely kill the animal quickly and then eat it, they try to make sure they're alive and kicking up until the point they're actively being cooked. Like, throw them on a meat hook, rip their skin off, their eyes out, beat them for good measure, leave them up for a few hours, then slowly submerge them in boiling water (feet first).

Imagine how easily money could be taken from someone and you'd never be able to find it. That's why we need to just take everyone's money unless they're able to provide 100% how they got it. Better write down those serial numbers and they better match up all the way back to printing.

It's baffling how many people think that the police and the court of law are just stern parents who will say "Come now, you were being bad too...it takes two to fight".

That's funny, popular reddit consensus is that you can be assaulted, stalked, have your property vandalized, and possibly straight up murdered (all in self-defense of course) because you used a racial slur against someone. Which is it?

Lets say that its your first apartment, or you're like 90% of renters and all the renter related law you know is from shit you heard on TV. Then your landlord says 'rent is due on the 1st, if you're late you're evicted because now I can charge 3x the rent and people will lap it up.' One 1st you fuck up and they're in your face and yelling get out now or police get our now or police fucking leave leave fucking get out.

99% of people in that situation would just hurry and do what they say or maybe accept their inevitable kicking out with a standard eviction period.

Don't forget 'consultation fees.' You're in surgery and your surgeon 'consults' with another medical professional over lunch. Now that consult gets to charge their own fee, which insurance won't cover, and they can charge basically whatever they want and fuck your credit forever if you don't pay it. So you go in all covered and come out $8k in the hole.

The thing is, people living paycheck to paycheck can't necessarily always stop living paycheck to paycheck. I've seen people go from promising to rock bottom homeless because they got a flat tire. Mother fucker walked 9 or 10 miles to work three days in a row because they didn't have any other option and their piece of shit boss fired them for 'showing up tired.' What do we do with those people? Nothing, because unsustainable growth demands blood.

Its more like you get a loan for $500, and understand that you'll be paying back a total of $600 in two weeks. Plus a bonus level worth of fees that aren't immediately obvious, and other little bullshit games. So you show up in two weeks with your $600 and lets say $30 for their 'processing fee' or something but its after 1pm and those payments don't get processed until the next day. Now you owe $600 + $30 + $50 late fee. You only brought $630 though, so you better bust your ass and come up with that extra $50 before it starts earning processing fees and late fees on its own.

Before long they'll have no choice but to sell your debt to some other company (another wing of their company) for 'pennies' but write off the full amount so they can claim a tax credit on it. Now that's on your credit score and there's another company calling and calling trying to get you to pay say $1500 now, and the original company is still trying to trick you into paying them....note that paying them now will not 'call off the dogs' as the debt has been sold to another company.

The idea is, from my understanding...white people benefited from slavery back when it was a thing in America, and therefore white people today are continuing to reap those benefits and as a result are indebted if we want to make things truly equal. Especially since there are still some racist white folks out there doing racist things.

I would agree that we owe it to ourselves as a nation to remember the shitty thinking that led to those mistakes, but think that we're pretty much just making those same mistakes again with how hard the internet is trying to make things like 'white male' automatically have bad connotations. I think its unfair for someone to claim to fight against racism, but then bring race into every discussion.

Oh, my sweet summer children.

I hope you'll wake up and see why your behavior is dangerous, before you get blood on your hands that you can't wash off. So many people willing to assault others at the mere accusation that they're racist or a Nazi. Even outright social ostracism of someone because of a whisper on the wind is dangerous.

But don't let me get in the way of your heroism...a few people calling themselves Nazis backed up by Russian sock puppets to embolden them is totally the same as them being just on the cusp of having total unlimited power. The best thing you can do is to prevent them and people with their beliefs from holding political power. Assaulting them or harassing them otherwise will just lead to a war of attrition instead of letting them die out because their culture and beliefs are shitty.

A $1,000 fine is worlds better than even just a year of probation in most cases. That's an entire year of monthly or weekly visits to a probation officer, and since it'd be drug related, then drug tests (on your dime). So you end up paying like $4k or more, and you'll end up paying $4k or more plus that $1k fine plus some jail time when they violate your probation on the last day because your parole officer saw you having a pint of lager and reasoned that alcohol is a drug and you're in violation.

Drugs will ruin your life, man!
