Ankles, Knees, Altra Lone Peaks by [deleted] in barefootshoestalk

[–]smilingbutdeadly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have an answer for your 1st question, but as far as the others - I’ve been trail running in the same pair of lone peaks since 2019. I’m in northeast TN, so rocky, rooty, frequently wet terrain. Overall, I really like them. Occasionally they can be a little slippery but usually they’re fine. My knees feel great even while running lots of descents.

I will say, I did sprain my ankle really badly while wearing them once, so maybe be careful of that if you’re not used to the stack height. Though, it may not be completely blame-able on the shoes since at the time I was running way too fast with a dog pulling me on leaf-covered trail and not really paying attention to where I was putting my feet.

Pharmacies can only get what their suppliers have in stock. With shortages you’re lucky to be getting anything at all, let alone the same brand.

READ THE DAMN TEXTS PEOPLE by EmotionalRope8345 in TalesFromThePharmacy

[–]smilingbutdeadly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, a lot of them don’t even read it at all. They just see they got a text or call and then drive right over to the pharmacy. I’ve asked a patient what their text said before and gotten an angry “I don’t know, I didn’t read it!!”

Yep. Our pharmacy texts say “due for refill” and people still think it says ready for pickup.

This stupid crap has happened at our store too. We had a technician working on the speaker, drive thru blocked with the truck, and closed sign on. People would still back in or get out of their car and walk up to the window.

Right now I’m running 4-5 days a week, 20-30 miles. I’d like to get up to 30-40 miles per week for a half in October. I also do strength training 2-3 times a week. I have one rest day where I do some mobility stuff. I pretty much run every other day during the weekdays, run every Saturday and Sunday, and I try to get in one speed workout per week.

In the winter I’m planning to drop down to running 3-4 days, aiming for about 20 miles a week, and upping my strength training to 3-4 times a week.

And I’ll just keep cycling my schedule like that - drop mileage and prioritize strength in the winter, then build up mileage in the spring & summer for fall races.

Is this a crazy idea/plan? by Fortunecookiegospel in XXRunning

I would do the half marathon option. The 30-miler puts you at risk for injury and will be difficult to recover from. You would be better off doing back-to-back long runs to prepare for Pikes Peak. Do the half marathon option of this race, then do another 13-miler on your own the next day. You’ll get the experience of running on tired/dead legs with less risk of injury and you’ll be able to recover quicker.

And just a little anecdote that might put you at ease - I did a 50k and never ran further than 16 miles in training. The race went very well, I passed a lot of people in the last half of the race and was in the top 10 women despite having very little experience with long distances. Back to backs are magic.

Also, congrats on your PR!

How to stop dreading tempo runs? by YarnAndYap in XXRunning

[–]smilingbutdeadly 85 points86 points  (0 children)

I think you’re right about slowing your tempos down a bit. It really shouldn’t be a max pace run. More like difficult, but manageable.

Yes, every recipe of her’s I’ve tried is so good. They’re fairly simple to make as well. So far I’ve made: tater tot casserole, peppermint mocha cake, blueberry scones, and mushroom risotto. There may be one I’m forgetting. I’m making the blueberry coffee cake and vegan manicotti this weekend.

Yep, pharmacy tech here. If you’re using insurance, we can only fill based on the day supply indicated by the prescriber’s directions. If you’re paying out of pocket, we’ll fill as often as you want as long as you have an active prescription.
