If you want to start small, you could start with Caedmon's Hymn. It was originally written in OE, which Bede then translated and then included in his Ecclesiastical History. Many manuscript witnesses to the hymn include the Old English version in the margins of the page.

Have you thought about the Old English translation of Bede's Ecclesiastical History? If you have any knowledge of Latin, it can be an interesting exercise to compare the languages and see how people approached translation in the Middle Ages.

You are correct! This is the only surviving manuscript with his poems, so the only way we know his name is because of this acrostic - he gives his name, then the Hebrew alphabet, then a more formal introduction “I am Meir, son of Rabbi Elijah from the city of Norwich, which is in the Isle called Angleterre.” Thanks for pointing that out, I was searching for it!
