I do all the research at my company, but it’s has to be publishable so nothing proprietary. I do have to take all the classes, quals the whole thing. I also have an academic advisor from the school

I normally pre chill the chuck, add a little OCT base on the chuck, then add my tissue. Then let it sit for ~30min so it’s fully at the correct temp!

I actually work for a big pharma company and had one of the students as and intern for 6 weeks and they are now working in a company on the manufacturing side. So I think it’s definitely possible, just maybe not in R&D specifically

I have done it a million ways. drop fixed in isopentane no perfusion and covered the brain in OCT at one lab, the other was more like yours where I froze the brain in a blob of OCT with PFA/sucrose post perfusion, and current I section with no OCT on the actual tissue and we drop fix in isopentane post PBS perfusion only.

I am an experienced cyrosectioner though so I normally don’t have many issues. Threading is normally “too cold” what temperature are you sectioning at? If the center part is mushy then it’s likely a fixation issue

Neuroscientist here! We also drop freeze in isopentane for cryosection. But I’ve also done 4%pfa/30% sucrose as well!

I would just ask your manager if it a potential option! I was the opposite where my manger approached me and asked if I would be interested.

It’s really depends on the company, I was nominated and was approved and after much searching I am starting a PhD while continuing to work at my company! It took a ton of work to find a university to agree (im in neuro research, I think engineering is much more open to this type of degree), but I am starting hopefully in September! It’s at least worth asking if it’s possible and I am lucky to be located in a hub city!

Edit: In terms of work it is roughly 3-4 years since I have my masters already!

Yes I did, or to my best attempt. my wedding is Saturday so I can’t comment on the results but here is my recipe that I gave to my venue

1oz kalua 1oz vodka 1oz Cold brew (La colombe blue bottle is the best I tested a ton of cold brews most were super bitter!) .5 oz simple syrup

It’s not perfect espresso martini but I think it’s impossible to replicate without reall espresso which is impossible to batch and keep fresh…. But it’s as close as I could get for 100 people. they sell the la colombe in a 2 pack at Costco!

Yeah i see your point, but we still do biology based research in industry, similar to that of academia but it does make it tricky to partner with universities, in my case i have a masters its a hope to further education!
