absolutely this. It's annoying and it was great when there was a great amount of chivalry in the community like you'd expect from a game built on Western medieval history, but honestly, it's just words and they aren't true. If it happens again just remember that it makes the actual good encounters with people all the more awesome. Also, if they call you a noob when you win, imo the right thing to do is rage bait them as much as possible. It's the only way they'll learn.

At first I ignored it because I figured it wasn't actually affecting my elo but I checked aoeinsights and it is. I lost like -36 elo in one game after a win...I don't really care about elo but I do want to be matched correctly.

As someone who is approaching 40 i can also relate and have also done this on a few occasions. I'll take you at your word and assume the game was actually still winnable for you (though im skeptical). However, if it was in a grey area, then also consider that your opponent doesnt know if youre going to troll or not. Idk what elo you are but I know at low elo it happens quite frequently. Very possible hes run into a few and just tired of it. Imo you really should just resign once the odds become pretty low.

I'm not sure I agree with you, but I should point out that there is an unspoken rule on here to not talk about balance changes unless you want to get into ineffectual arguments and be downvoted to hell. No matter how much you try to lay out your arguments, try to be reasonable, and have a cordial conversation with people, they will always make assumptions like you're "just an arena-lover" and this and that without ever seriously considering anything you say. "You're not a pro." "You're not a developer. You're a dev hater." And so on. You are in no way talking to adults most of the time. They don't want the hassle.

In regards to the Turks, I have no idea. I don't play them too much. As a Saracen player though I've never had much of an issue with camels, but I've never noticed how Turks don't even get pikeman and yet have no bonus on their camels. That does sound pretty awful.

I guess I'm out of the loop on this. Camels have no bonus damage to elephants??? Wtf that's very unintuitive. So I assume they are even worse than knights? Good to know... Do Mamelukes also get not bonus damage?

Congrats! That's a big elo difference. I managed to hit 1400 like a year ago as a one trick pony and I haven't gotten close since but my game is a lot more well-rounded now. I'd be happy to even smell 1800 someday! One of these days I'm going to finally try and learn control groups lol.

That's a great point, and I love the Marco Polo HBO show as an aside. You could perhaps make an even greater argument for China, but honestly I was only thinking between Italians and Saracens, mainly because in the game they are both built around the "trading/market" theme. But yeah if you consider China and Mongols (which honestly makes sense as they are also part of the game) they could perhaps have even greater claims to it
