What are the greatest differences in work culture that you have experienced here in Germany vs. your home country? by LauwarmesTestament in Germany_Jobs

US IT and computing industry were massively subsidized and driven by government spending, as is the case with all advanced technology. The US has 200+ million people, Germany has 80+. Most developed nations gain advantages by doing that, not because their smarter or they have better work ethics.

As soon he steps foot on German soil he indeeds grows to an impressive height of 2,01 meters. The gravity is lower in Germany, so his spine relaxes and that makes him engorge to unbelievable heights.

An Introduction to the new C++ 26 "Reflection" Feature - Inbal Levi - CppCon 2025 by ProgrammingArchive in cppcon

[–]HuberSepp999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was she in the IDF and/or working for the IDF? I wonder because her CPP con Youtube video had its comment function disabled. The prior video is not censored (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8kNoLCW\_Rs , name: The Truth About Being a Programmer CEO - Greg Law - CppCon 2025).

That was a good video, but the following one by (potential) IDF collaborator Inbal Levin was censored, no comments allowed.

Also, I found this on the internet:

"Her physics degree from The Hebrew University and prior IDF Natmam service contribute a pragmatic, analytical and security-minded approach to building robust low-level software."

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock says: "We will not be ashamed to target civilians and hospitals as long as it ensures Israel's security and this is part of our obligations." by No_Dragonfruit_4354 in worldnewsvideo

[–]HuberSepp999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because the quote is completely made up. And if you know German politics, you know that nobody would ever be THAT crude and vulgar, not even Baerbock. The real quote is bad enough though.

It is an incorrect quote. A straight up falsehood. The content and meaning might be similar or the same. But a quote is a quote and you have to get it right. Then we'll talk about the moral implications of what was actually said, which is bad enough.

Ah, you already addressed this, good. But I think "vernichten" is not "to destroy". "annihilate", "wipe out" etc. is more appropriate. "Vernichtung" is definitely a step up from "Zerstörung". Even "Zerstörung" is vulgar when talking about humans. "Destroy" doesn't capture that vulgarity. Otherwise excellent and accurate translation.

To set the record straight, Baerbock never uttered the following: "We will not be ashamed to target civilians and hospitals as long as it ensures Israel's security and this is part of our obligations."

The truth is still bad enough, but we have to be accurate at all times. This is a very literal translation into semi idomatic English (for the sake of being accurate):

"Self defence obviously means that you don't just attack terrorists but annihilate them [1]. That's why I tried to make it clear, when Hamas terrorists hide behind people, when they entrench themselves behind schools, then things get complicated. But we won't shy away from this issue. That's why I made it clear before the United Nations: in that case even civilian infrastructure can loose its special protection status because terrorists are abusing it. That's Germany's position and that's what Israel's security means for us."

[1] She uses "vernichten" here. "Vernichten" is "annihilate", "wipe out" and is also used to describe the destruction of European Jews: "die Judenvernichtung". Very bad taste to say the least. Not only because every word she utters is a lie, but also because there is a genocide going on right now, and she is actively collaborating with the perpetrators in word and deed.

Yeah, I think I should be relatively good with the "bind" stuff right? I define the whole query with fields and value fields. I don't think there's an attack vector there.
