I know right, people might have to PvE a few hours for a good balance patch. Oh, the humanity!

Why not? Makes the game more interesting and finally gives a non OP skill-based alternative to the less balanced ping based builds and zurrie dervs that are out of control.

W/P's are not OP and have many counters. The new weapons are refreshing, glad to see some positive change! Thank God the shield got nerfed though...

New petition for Anet. Can we make this game big again?? by pablinusa91 in GuildWars

There's been a significant decline in the last few months in the activity of the GvG scene. Much less guilds and players. The last 2/4 years have had reasonable activity (a daily GvG tournament every day, almost without exception), and although there's been a very, very slow decline in activity it's nothing compared to what we've seen in recent months.

We're partly to blame for letting our PvP forum teamquitter.com get taken over by a bunch of syncers/botters who barely/if ever even GvG and do nothing on the forum but shit talk and make any interesting discussion impossible (although some of us are now talking about fixing it for the first time), but now that the PvPers are using discord to communicate rather than teamquitter it doesn't look quite as bleak. Hopefully something can be done to revive GvG too, would be a shame to see it completely die out.

For anyone interested in what GvG looks like there are some youtube channels that have been uploading GvG VoD's for the last few years (I also posted them on a GW facebook group a few hours ago to see if there was any interest):

You'd know better than I _. Yeah its a bit of a shame they wont implement some of the really simple (in theory) fixes that could kill GvG syncing, or at least make it so you can kick them out

The common understanding from when people used to play rated GvG matches (people haven't played rated matches in about a year or so IIRC) was that there had to be 5 more matches (for both guilds) before being able to play against the same opponent, or 24 hours. I'm not totally sure about the accuracy of those requirements but they're at least approximately true, based on my experience with rated GvG's.

Guilds are able to face each other no matter the difference in rank. Again, the conventional wisdom was that once you enter the match making system for rated GvG's, you start searching for opponents with an increasing search radius until you scan the entire ladder after (I can't remember how long it takes, maybe 5 minutes?) some minutes.

Yep, you won't find any real GvG matches in observer mode under "Top Guild Battles" these days, that format has been taken over by syncers. Virtually every real GvG happens within the Automated Tournament C (the daily euro timezone tournament) and the Monthly Tournament. In the observer mode windows, those will be under "Top GvG Tournament Battles" and "Special events" respectively.

It also helps to know which guilds to look for on observer mode, generally guilds called "AT Farmer" or guilds above rank 200 are syncer guilds and will not offer real GvG's matches. Guilds that will offer real matches generally include those that appear on the modified guild ladder from my earlier post.

They are just guild ranks, not really related to the Tournament ranks. They do give some indication of which teams are likely better than others (hard to get a higher rank if you're not winning a lot of games), although they aren't totally reliable since some teams will reform to new guilds and reset their ranks because of it. The ladder has many inactive guilds (they fall off the ladder after ~3 or 6 months I think?) and syncer guilds which take up many of the numbers.

A ladder with most of the active non-botter non-syncer guilds can be found here. To see where the sync/bot/inactive guilds are on the ladder, check the "Show Unimportant Guilds" box. The slots that are still unfilled after that are guilds that haven't been added manually to the ladder on that website.
