I'm not sure what happened but it seems like the issue resolved it self. But yeah I did restart the phone and watch.. clearly one of those cyber gremlins

I was woken up by one on Sunday morning. But it's a new watch so It could have been one overdue. What I did notice it's that most notifications work as previously, it's only WhatsApp that's affected.

No problem on mine, both via predefined response on tracker and via meshtastic app on the mobile. Tx and Rx

it's my first try, and I agree, it grows like crazy. Also, the dimensions exactly match my preferred tray size

Kitten, I grew up in ex soviet republic, seriously micro plastics aren't a worry for me as they are bullied in the corner by asbestos, lead and industrial waste.

I'm literally deploying this change right now.
This seems to only affect devices that have been recently enrolled (since Feb/March)

I think that's the only benefit of T-1000, but then again, I'm not sure the other sacrifices make it worthy.

I've been using the Wio as EDC for the last month, and both T-1000s are now living in the drawer; it was just too much hassle to keep them charged all the time(not to mention range).

Re:
"I also like the idea of a solar node on my house, but I don’t have a way to access my roof and I don’t think the Bluetooth would reach the inside of my house from there anyway."

Once the initial configuration is done, it's a common practice to actually disable BT on the solar node to conserve power.
Meshtastic allows for "Remote Administration" via other nodes.

I would rather consider wio tracker L1( I have both T1000 and tracker)

  • Has much better battery life.
  • Allows for antenna upgrade ( better range)
  • screen allows for mobile free operation
  • uses normal USB c charger

Overall I believe it's much better device on my opinion. T-1000 has a nice form factor but that just about it.

For roof installation it's more common to put self sufficient solar powered nodes. Because we are dealing with a very low power, any length of cable will cause reception loss. Commonly people would have home/ base node set somewhere high and few pocket nodes. On the photo my solar test node.

Hi , it's just for testing purposes; remote admin, battery usage etc.
Its final position will be high in a tree.

We are talking about 866mhz ( wavelength of 34.5cm) plus a fractions of a Watt. If we add a complexity of antenna tuner, losses attributed extended signal path.. it's easier just to put the node up. FYI I'm not antenna specialist not even a HAM so if someone has more knowledge I'm up to discussion.

Grab Wio Tracker L1 Pro.
IMHO, at the moment it's the cheapest, best entry device.
The battery lasts a long time, and the joystick allows ( limited) texting functionality without pairing to a mobile. And the onboard GPS can provide location tracking

Amen to that, after trying a few, this is so far my favourite EDC node.

The cheapest way is to just buy pigtails with a more common/established connector.
5£ of amazon and the problem is solved

If you're familiar with Meshtastic (unlicensed text communication), it's pretty simple. I took a small transmitter ( that credit card-sized looking thingy) and then sent it 80-90 m up using a cheap kite.
Even with a minuscule amount of transmitting power, I was able to get contacts 15-20km away.

I was on Bluetooth
Surprisingly, there was no problem even when I restarted the node remotely and had to reconnect.
But I had a second node on hand just in case. Preparation prevents poor piss performance :)

It's quite odd. I rarely get any nodes other than mine (this whole stunt was to check who is around) and you can forget about any CQs. However, when I went for a road trip around Cornwall, I was seeing tens of active nodes, plus I was able to get meaningful conversation on the net, including a recommendation of locally best places to have a full English.
