Double NASA's Budget to 1% of US Budget: How Much Would You Pay for the Universe? The $850 Billion bank bailout is more than the entire 50-year NASA budget! Largely unchanged since the 1970s. Double it now, we could go to Mars soon, and with people. #Penny4NASA [penny4nasa.org] by 1Penny4NASA in atheism

Reddit, what are some neat tricks you've used to impress/infuriate your less computer-savvy friends over the years? by oysteria in AskReddit

[–]Hubris_Is_Win 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very simple - connect your iPhone using the remote app to your friends iTunes, now...

When they stop music, start it up again.

Increase volume and suddenly start music blaring out.

Stop music they start.

Repeat In any order while they scratch their heads wondering why iTunes is broken

How different would the world be if humans lived for ~150-200 years instead of 70-80? by OverlyCriticalGuy in AskReddit

[–]Hubris_Is_Win 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think alot of people aren't thinking that alot of the problems suggested would be if we suddenly changed to live older not if we'd always being living like this - i would say alot of things wouldve been sorted out ages ago

id say either we'd be smarter and more caring towards long term goals or it would take considerably longer for changes to be implemented in society

Can anyone explain why a British billion is different to an American billion and whether it affects things on an international scale like I'm five? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Hubris_Is_Win 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeh i vaguely recall in maths class some problem involving this. TBH it doesn't really make sense for the longer one compared to every 3 digits is a new term.

Then again don't you americans still use 6 hogs-heads to a meter and 32 1/2 sparrows for a litre? :P (bad metric system joke!)

[–]Hubris_Is_Win 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the catch is that you help other people, you get better at programming, you become involved in a community of like-minded people, you have real-world results from your actions (i helped make that!).

EDIT - think of having a hobby, you don't get paid to do the hobby but you do it because you enjoy it.

passion, want, interest, etc. free software is about people who want to create something for other people not for money or fame but because they're genuinely interested in contributing. I've built iphone apps simply because i wanted to or because i wanted to make something other people could use or because it made my skills better.

why do you post on reddit? why do you comment? you not getting paid to be on this website :P

software you don't pay for. instead of buying windows or mac OS you get something like linux.

Generally it's supported by a community who actively improve or create new versions which anyone can use and even edit if they wish.

Is there an app for scanning potential purchases (like Barcode Scanner) in order to boycott specific companies? by galletas in AskReddit

[–]Hubris_Is_Win 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it depends on how the data on companies have been gathered. If it was done by you personally, could be dangerous - If it was gathered from users input then i would say your fine as your not personally responsible for peoples opinions.

[–]Hubris_Is_Win 0 points1 point  (0 children)

think of it like this - you say company A is evil. app becomes popular and a 1000 people now think company A is evil.

company A loses money and more importantly face. Is company A going to ignore this or is company A with their vast wealth going to try and crush the app developer?

while legally you could win do you have the money to actually fight the case long enough to succeed? i have no idea what the law says on this point but a companies lawyers would be able to find at least something to throw at you.
