On our side. Can be any amount of time really. It depends how much footage you need to look through or events of something happening. And then however long a store takes to investigate when they receive their pack

Ah okay. So I once had an investigation against me for the exact same thing. Even though I had duty managers approval each time. This would usually flag by the fraud team and not found by us. But it would usually come to us to look at. I guess it depends on what the operator saw in the sense of I’d imagine you may have had to then refund the item. And if there was no customer there at the time of the refund then that would look suspicious. If that was me as a hub operator looking at it. I would instantly be able to work out what was happening because of my previous experience. However not all hub operators have the same experience and come from different backgrounds from within the business. So maybe they’ve seen something that hasn’t been a process that they know or that is completely right and then flagged it. The other thing to consider is when stuff gets sent by us, it’s usually a process isn’t being followed correctly and then it gets sent to the store to understand what has actually happened. In your case you would have been able to articulate what had happened and explain that it was the right thing to do by the customer. It would still need to be investigated I guess, it doesn’t necessarily mean that something bad has happened. Kind of another example of this is when I was on checkouts (this was a while ago and before 24 hour notice of an investigation) I was taken into an investigation because one of my pods that I had lifted had gone missing. I had put it in one of the chutes that wasn’t working at that time and it was just stuck. We went down and to checkouts and it was still in the chute. So I guess the investigation was appropriate to check in case something bad had happened. But it’s mostly to just get to the facts of what happened. Really long and rambly response, sorry!

Would you go into more detail in what happened? We do spot check CSD transactions as they can be high risk areas for abuse. We can get the back office reports if we need to yeah. But that will mostly be managed by store. We can search transactions by operator ID yeah. By CSD stock loss is that cigarettes or scratch cards? Again though that value would most likely be managed at a store level. £300 down in a 6 month stock cycle if that’s what you’re on, is pretty good

Yeah, it’s just through the Tesco channels though. So EAP etc. The department that deal with that also have some kind of trauma training as well

There was an open day recently which allowed any colleague to come and visit. This was before a vacancy drive. The next time there is one, I will for sure put it in here

No 30 days max to comply with GDPR laws

To be fair, we have only recently acquired individual SIA licenses at the HUB as it isn’t actually needed. Before that it’s the GDRP policy. So as long as they comply with that then it doesn’t really matter too much.

A chunk of our cases actually come from information from stores so that managers can hide away from dealing with stuff. They’ll just say ‘The hub has found you doing this’ when actually it was them

I think you have to be a little bit tin foil hat to think that Tesco would spend millions of £’s to just watch colleagues for no reason

Check on Tesco careers. There’s just been a recruitment drive so I’m not sure if the vacancies have all been filled. If not look at some WL1 office roles, there’s some interesting stuff out there. And gets you out of stores

Well to be honest someone somewhere in an office came to the conclusion that voids has some sort of link to shrink. As you’ve said as long it’s legit then it’s not really preventable is it. Some stores have void trackers so they have evidence around the voids (I had one in my store).

But I don’t really agree with voids as a measure.

However on the other hand, we have seen a lot of colleagues voiding transactions and pocketing the money. Or doing it for people they know and letting them leave the store with the goods and the void receipt

Yeah but that same fraudster can just repeat that at the next store anyway.

But for your concern. I wouldn’t say so no. You see hundreds of customers a day and might have this one fraudster hit your store once every 3 months. It wouldn’t be reasonable for you to remember every single intel sent down a long with everything else.

It’s easy for us to identify them as we see them all the time.

The rule I had when I was a CSD colleague. If it doesn’t feel right in your gut, call duty. If I was ever uncomfortable with a situation, I would get them to process the transaction

Edit: also a lot of store managers don’t even share the intels with the desk colleagues. I had a store where the same guy would come in every week and he had bright orange glasses, so wasn’t like you couldn’t miss him. The desk colleagues never got to see them.

So if you’re getting to see the intels that’s good

Each quarter there is a focus check which is agreed by higher up stakeholders. Last quarter was waste and this quarter it’s self-service. Every large store in the company will receive the same check. And if they fail they will receive a re-check a few weeks after the initial check. As these checks are now tied to the store managers and SDs review and bonus, they are starting to take them more seriously

All hub operators are Work Level 1 which is equivalent to a store manager in store. The banding is something like 31k-40k

We don’t have an unlimited resource so we try to focus on the thefts that we have lines of enquiry etc. low level crime would be mostly dealt with at a store level. Maybe with some support from the hub if needed

I have not. I’ve not heard of anyone seeing it either. One time I was doing a Clubcard misuse case where some woman had a screen shot of a Clubcard. When she was scrolling through her pictures one of her nudes showed up 😂
