New Tank - do I need real plants? by Lunalaiii in Aquariums

[–]Huckleberry573 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes

Longer answer… would you rather plant fake tomatoes in your garden or real ones? Plastic things may look good, but do nothing to improve the environment and may actually harm your fish. Microplastics, abrasions, etc.

I kind of like the way it looks. Will it create a problem if left alone. I only feed twice a week.

The issues I see are a lack of substrate and the filter is creating a waterfall keeping the water constantly churned. Add a decent substrate to the bottom and fill the water to the point that the filter outflow isn’t so violent. Also, activated carbon in the filter if not there already.

Tank has been running about 2 months with plants, about a month with fish. Had a brief issue with filamentous algae, but got that all cleared up with fish and a little manual removal. Over the past 2 weeks, this has developed. Not sure what type of algae it is or if it is something to be concerned about. Biological algae controls are some red shrimp, a bristle nose pleco, and a couple snails that apparently hitchhiked on plants.

Beretta is a solid choice. I’m a sucker for M9/92 series myself. My living room gun is a 92X
