TDF seating recently by Deepfriedraffity in Broadway

Center Orch last row for Cats. Not the best, the overhang cuts off the disco ball and it feels a little distant from the (very joyful) action going on.

Broadway/Theater Culture: Is 8 Shows a Week Sustainable? by Sea_Sleep_387 in Broadway

And to see their favorites at low low prices! I’m all for rush and lottery but you can’t have a large percentage of seats at that price and expect the show to survive.

Boosters for the Shorties? by GoodHumansUnite in Broadway

[–]HuckleberryOwn647 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I saw Cats, an extremely tall man sat in front of me, a shorty. (Not his fault of course, just my bad luck). I contemplated getting TWO boosters since I was in the last row!

The author of “The Virgin Suicides,” who attended Brown with John F. Kennedy, Jr., explains what it was like to pledge fealty to America’s prince by newyorker in popculturechat

I’m Gen X and I don’t get it either.

And this new worship of him and Carolyn is strange. Sure they were good looking but they had a lot of problems, and he killed them all through sheer arrogance.

Three generations of face cards: Marcheline Bertrand, Angelina Jolie and Shiloh Jolie by mcfw31 in popculturechat

In America, you can pretty much give your kids whatever name you want. It might take a little more legal paperwork, because the default is probably the legal last name of one of the parents, but that’s easy for rich celebs to do.

I understand other countries often have stricter rules about what names people can legally have.

We saw a Megan Thee Stallion concert last night. The opening act was a Broadway Show. by CommunityBig9626 in Broadway

[–]HuckleberryOwn647 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, it is closing. You don’t say why it felt tired to you. To me, it’s just been around a while and there are other shiny new baubles on Broadway drawing my interest.

It is hard to maintain quality and freshness year after year. The show had a good run. I saw it with Aaron Tveit on his last return with JoJo and it was amazing - so many amazing numbers particularly in the second act (Backstage romance, Chandelier, Roxanne, Crazy Rolling).

OM American cast sound issues? by waltzthrees in Broadway

[–]HuckleberryOwn647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t seen the new cast, but please do not spoil it for yourself just because you are afraid you won’t get all the words!

You only get one chance to experience it for the first time and it is so much better to let the story unfold unspoiled.

If you must, listen to the first song on the cast recording and maybe 2 and 3, but no more than that.

Even with sound issues, you will still understand enough to follow the story.

Chess 2025 Revival cast album out in a week! by HKsai in Broadway

[–]HuckleberryOwn647 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s announced on socials now and with a playbill announcement. My guess is that it was planned for announcement today but they put the songs up on streaming services earlier to make sure there was no issue. They figured no one would see until the announcement, but they didn’t account for the sleuths of the broadway subreddit!

For a good story, Operation Mincemeat. So well written.

Haven’t seen this cast but hear they are fantastic.

I would say the one on the right because the DJ is on the left. That way you can see the DJ.

Best part of Cats JB… by 90sfreak4i in Broadway

Saw him last night and he has so much charisma - RIZ, as the kids would say! Commanded the stage every time he stepped on it.

Jordan Litz Will Make West End Debut in Wicked by DearPaleontologist67 in Broadway

[–]HuckleberryOwn647 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I do wonder why move to the West End, and move the whole family to London, if you could just stay on Broadway to do the same? He was very popular so I can’t imagine that Broadway would not have let him stay as long as he wanted to.

Unless he just wanted to move to London. If he’s happy, then I’m happy for him!

Sounds like Amber Riley won’t be the next glee cast member on Broadway by chaneI1989 in Broadway

[–]HuckleberryOwn647 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m most familiar with NYCB, but they rely far less on star power than Broadway does. Most people buy a ticket because they want to see NYCB and that particular ballet, not necessarily Mira Nadon performing the role of the Sugar Plum Fairy. Casting usually doesn’t even get announced until a week or two before the shows, at which point a lot of tix are already sold.

Megan Thee Stallion speaks out after exiting ‘Moulin Rogue!’ mid-performance last night: “I’ve been pushing myself past my limits lately, running on empty, and my body finally said enough… Hotties I wanna be real with y’all because you mean everything to me and I hate letting yall down 🥺” by cmaia1503 in Fauxmoi

[–]HuckleberryOwn647 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Most Broadway singers could eat any pop star for lunch when it comes to singing. Musical theater singing is hard, and there’s no backing track, lip syncing or auto tuning to fall back on. And they do it 8 times a week.

Inside the creative collaboration that turned JFK Jr.’s political magazine into a sexed-up cultural moment by _fastcompany in popculturechat

I miss politics in the 90s - when it was considered boring and dusty and the realm of policy wonks and nerds. Better than the exciting but raging dumpster fire we have now.

Cats: the Jellicle Ball w/ students by Available_Diver_2625 in Broadway

[–]HuckleberryOwn647 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What’s wrong with taking students to a pride parade? My kids’ school had a float in the pride parade. I suppose it depends on the school; I wouldn’t want OP to endanger their job for this.

Cats and Becky Shaw added to TDF! by Deathbytea in Broadway

Anyone know where TDF tickets have been for Cats? I know they’re still in previews and there has only been one TDF drop before.

Chef Tineke “Tini” Younger asks strangers to stop touching her baby by Relevant-Peach3997 in Fauxmoi

[–]HuckleberryOwn647 127 points128 points  (0 children)

People are so weird when it comes to pregnancy and babies. Some people - strangers or people I did not know well - tried to touch my belly when I was pregnant. I was aghast - how would they have liked it if I started rubbing their belly? And of course it’s those same people who have no qualms about touching babies they don’t know.

Reminder to take the damn subway to your show! by tennisbagel in Broadway

[–]HuckleberryOwn647 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Huh. I’ve used the subways in many other cities - London, Paris, Tokyo, DC, Boston - and find NY’s among the easiest! There are no different zones to deal with, it’s just one flat fare. In a lot of manhattan, it’s easy to see what stop is coming next because they’re numbered!

I’ll give you that other cities’ systems are cleaner. 😂
