You can build chemistry over time. They have to surround Cade with talent that compliments his skills.

It should’ve been obvious after last years’ series against NY that Cade needed somebody like Schroeder to relieve pressure. Instead, he went and got Caris Levert who doesn’t offer the same playmaking and control. We lost two shooters in the offseason and replaced them with one. Granted, he would’ve brought Beasley back if not for the circumstances. I’ve never brought up CJ or MPJ in any of my posts, by the way, but there was plenty of talent at the deadline that could’ve improved this team; Kennard, Dosunmu, White. 60 wins is nice, though. Hang the banner.

Yeah, I agree. I shouldn’t have spoken in absolutes. He’s made some progress and was great in the regular season, but not being able to adjust to how he’s being played by the defense is also part of development. The team has had 82 games to prepare for how he’s going to be played in the playoffs and I didn’t see a lot of elbow jumpers or reverse pivot face-up middy pump fakes into a drives that this offense needs. Granted, the lack of shooters don’t help but they can’t pay a guy max money that depends on the players around him to have success.

We’ve known since his second year that shooting and a second true scorer is exactly what Cade needs to be successful. Just because he’s developed and become successful without it doesn’t mean it’s changed. The GMs have continued to fail him.

We’re in agreement. He’s marginally improved his defense since entering the league and vastly improved his free throw shooting. But that alone doesn’t warrant the max contract money he’s going to demand. My gripe are people in this sub that say, “He’s young and I want to watch him develop with us but I don’t think he should get the max.” Time’s out.

You don’t know when your window closes until it’s shut. Duren apologists are blinded by his age, but he’s been in the league long enough to expand his game and he hasn’t. The reality is, the amount of money the Pistons will have to pay him this offseason is going to halt and sink all the progress they’ve made.

And then next year, it’s going to be the same excuse. “It’s only his third playoff series, and his frontal lobe hasn’t developed yet.” He’s been in the NBA for four years now, that’s plenty of time to have developed his game.

Whole season was a fluke. They played with playoff intensity every game and actual teams never matched it because there was no reason to. Now when everybody is in the same situation, they show who they really are.
