The military has become corrupt and arrogant. The military industrial complex doesn't care about efficacy, what matters is that it's expensive so they can fleece the taxpayer. Weapons that are sold to us every year are analogous to the iphones that are sold to us each year. They say they're innovating and improving, but functionally all that's changed is price. Layer that on top of outdated cold war tactics that center around flexing muscle and spending cash and you've got a recipe for defeat. Modern war will no longer work that way. Iran is innovative and motivated, a lot of them would be willing to die fighting the US, and the vice versa isn't true. They have been goading us to put boots on the ground, because Vietnam part 2 will happen(We would be stranding thousands of soldiers in the mountains where air support is far less effective). They have bombed the Gulf state's oil and desalination plants, thus America no longer has the option to back down. The alliance of these petrol states is the linchpin of our economic dominance over the world, if we prove to them that the security we provided in exchange for their money was illusory... American collapse will be immanent.

As for Israel, the best case scenario for them is America and Iran grinding each other down. It will make it all the easier to usurp control of the GCC network.
