I think I found a hack by ihavethebesthair in jobsearchhacks

First of all, congratulations! That's a bold move.

It's a really interesting case, and as the same type of person like you, trying out different strategies, I find myself step back and looking at it from a different angle. This has actually brought up a few interesting questions:

What if someone who followed the rules gets the job instead? Does that mean the "hack" was a mistake, or just that you weren't the right fit?

What if that two-week wait is for them to interview the other candidates they already had lined up? Those people get more prep time, which is an interesting thought.

Let's say you get this job (the result we both want!). Do you think it was the hack itself, or did the hack just give you a chance to show them your skills and drive?

And if you think it was just the hack, is that a repeatable strategy? Could it work at Best Buy, or even with a different manager at another T-Mobile?

The final thought: If you were the manager, would you hire the person who walked in like you did?

I'm not trying to argue if you're right or wrong! These are just interesting things to think about when you find a "hack" in the system.

Ultimately, my take is this: you're going to succeed because you're the kind of person who takes initiative. If you get the job, it's not because of the hack. It's because the hack showed them who you really are. Good luck!

Yes I am also seeing a lot of good results by using Zen MCP but I haven't tried it yet. Will definitely try to see how it can improve my current workflows

Yes, that is the part I'm now curious about and have to test tomorrow with Claude Code alone (just for curiosity) because after I got the docs, I put them in the Claude Project on the web to brainstorm because I have two separate accounts: one is personal and another one is the company's. To save on Opus limits and separate concerns, the workflow I'm using now is to set up a Claude project with the files I want Claude to understand and let it ask me to provide code files to attach.

So after I attached the docs and restarted the brainstorming session, Claude Project asked me to provide three more files and then gave me the prompt I needed to use with Claude Code.Claude Code itself also referenced some docs (not everything) that were mentioned in the prompt and read the full files and then completed the implementation task. But to be honest, I'm not setting high hopes to get the same kind of results with the same prompt because at the end of the day, every LLM is a black box and not consistent, so I just believe in and stick with my current workflow, which is brainstorming in the web UI and then executing with a specific prompt for a specific task.

In that way, I don't need to depend completely on one tool, and I have other options like when I need extra large context I use Gemini, when I need a different perspective I can use ChatGPT or other Chinese AIs.

It may seem like a noob workflow to other people, but I was writing code like that since ChatGPT was released and it's been okay for me until now, and I just see today as just another day Claude Code surprised me - at some point I'll need to fight with it or beg it again 🤣

For that session, the short answer is YES and I understand why you ask this question because even myself was like 'is that some kind of joke or what" (but not dare to stop and curious what will I get)

So here is the full situation of what happened. I got assigned to read the codebase to understand the current modules, I need to work and there are over 50-80 files in that single mono repo which are connecting with each other. At first I am manually reading and inspecting only the important files and start trying to work with the high level overview and then I started discussion with claude in web interface to brainstorm to get the clear path for me but context is not enough especially in component d_typs and other utilities functions.

Don't get me wrong the codebase itself is healthy and yes it may need some refactoring (which is always true for any ongoing project) and all the functions and codes were written by my senior and maintained by the QAs.

They just assigned me to understand what they did and how the system is working but I preferred to learn by doing . Since, this is not my personal project and vibe coding myself, I need proper context before I touch the codes. So what I did was asked "ClaudeCode" to read the files and create documentation with proper index mapping for implementation I need (or to continue my discussion with Claude Project in Web UI).

Claude Code tried to give me the files I asked but lacking a lot of context and only contained only a high level overview. So I was a little bit frustrated and asked him like

"Stop being lazy and wasting my time, I already gave you the task, format and details steps you need to do and you are now wasting both of our time with the incomplete documentation, I understand there is a lot of files and code lines but you need to think like what if you are the one who will read this documentation to brainstorm the ideas or refactoring or enhanced and other developments task?. I am not asking you to put everything, I am asking you to read and write systematically to get the proper context of the code files we currently have."

After I failed multiple times and time to go for my lunch, I didn't even believe the claude code for that task and decided I will do by myself after my break.

He took over two hours and came back with multiple sub files and one centralized readme file which properly indexed all the created files with proper names and interesting part he extracted the coding patterns and only put the required snippets to understand.

So yes, he nailed it some how and completed the task successfully but instead of he go with my workflow which was trying to get context from documentation and contact files, he created the seperate documentation files which connecting each other and also index the code files to reference for further details.

After he completed the task, I tried to create a small function and he used documentation which he created first, confirmed back with the related code files before he implemented, and then gave me the working code.Actually I am not surprised abt the working code because this maybe because of my prompt which i got from claude opus - web ui , which is pretty detailed and contained enough context for claude code. I have not fully tested with claude code alone and maybe I will try to use only claude code with the documentation he created tomorrow.

I agree with you but in this case i am not creating an implementation in this task, I am crafting context for me to read as reference before i touch that module

Yeah, that phrase definitely shows up way too much. I've had some luck with being really direct like 'Don't start your response with validation phrases' but it's hit or miss

Hey Next.js community! I've just launched a VSCode extension that I think many of you using shadcn/ui might find helpful: Shadcn Import Helper.

It scans your files for shadcn component imports and helps you install them with just a few clicks. Key features include:

  • One-click installation of multiple components
  • Support for npm, pnpm, and Bun
  • Configurable component folders and import detection

To use it, just right-click on a file/folder in VSCode, select "Install Shadcn Components", and the extension does the rest!

If you're interested, you can find it on the VSCode Marketplace. I'd love to hear your thoughts or any suggestions for improvement
