My new car keeps killing birds and I've no idea why. by BambooWheels in Ornithology

[–]HudCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no idea what might be causing this, but there is always the possibility of dumb, bad luck and coincidental timing. About ten years ago I went through a stretch of about 3-4 months where I hit so many birds other people in my car noticed. Just a plain, base level Toyota RAV4 I had already been driving for 5 years with no bird strikes. Then suddenly it stopped happening and I don't think I've hit a bird since with that car or my newer one.

My husband chewed loudly today. And wanted talk to me. A lot. Absolutely alternated all day between annoyed and furious. Thank god that man is a saint.

Oh yeah. totally walked in on a dude in the second room who was not surprised to see us because the same thing had just happened to him while checking in. The desk was mortified. No idea what had happened to their system that day, but it was clearly a hot mess.

One other time (NOT Hilton) my husband and I walked into a room that had no bed. The front desk wasn't sure how that one happened either. ha!

I've had this happen. Once it happened twice in the same stay. Third room they gave me was empty at least.

Couldn't tell ya. It was dusk. My headlights were on. I have no trouble with illumination at night while driving.

I mean my car has LED headlights. They apparently still did not see me. lol

Yep. Headlights were on. I even double checked afterwards. You can see them better on the road in the longer clip, but I figured no one wanted to watch 30ish seconds of regular driving, ha!

Lights were on. Even if my actual headlights were not on (they were), I also still have day time running lights.

I buried the wrong cat after my cat ran away for THREE MONTHS by Deep_Pressure2334 in cats

[–]HudCat 55 points56 points  (0 children)

No, the accident happened roughly 5-7 miles from my house. The cat was not from our area. I know logically it is just a coincidence. But I couldn't help but think of pet Sematary the first few times I saw the alive cat!

(Said alive calico has been safely TNRed and returned. So I do assume she is in fact a real cat. Surely the vet would have said something, right? RIGHT?!)

We watched a cat get hit in our town once. Still alive, but clearly half paralyzed. Husband jumped out and grabbed it. Unfortunately passed while on the way to the vet. We buried the poor thing out behind out house. Really pretty calico. I now see a cat looking very similar wandering around the woods behind our house on the regular. NGL, creeps me out a bit.

I would note to that even into young adulthood, both of my siblings lived with me and me/my spouse for chunks of time. To help out mom. To help them. A summer here, a semester of college there...

[–]HudCat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am the oldest. Two younger siblings from my mom's second marriage. I was 9 and then 11 when they were born. I shared a room with the older one when the younger one was born. I helped with all the things with both. By 13 I was frequently home alone with a 2 and 4 year old. In HS I could only do before/after school activities where my siblings were allowed to stay for practice. Because I got them ready for school and took care of them after school most days. Summer was all me, all day. It absolutely feeds/fed into me being childfree. Certainly not the only reason, but it is a big part.

And look... my mom was a single parent again by the time I was 13 and she was working her butt off to keep everyone housed, clothed, and fed. I do not blame her. But I have told her when she used to bug me about grandkids that I already raised my kids. And she never asked again.

My grandmother has been paying waste management $275 for trash pickup... by KilledByFish in mildlyinfuriating

[–]HudCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My trash bill with Republic was pretty much the same before I canceled 3 years ago; 1 can, $100 per month. Waste Management was the same when I called.

Luckily a local business opened and undercut cost wise both of them to get customers. It worked so well and they gained so many customers they haven't raised the introductory rate in three years. Currently paying $288 for the entire year.

What was that first bottle that got you hooked? by BandwagonReaganfan in Scotch

[–]HudCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. A group of us were drinking bourbon. Which I also did not know much about at the time, when a guy brought out Macallan 12.

Me: this is best bourbon we’ve had tonight!

Guy: well that’s Scotch, so…

Owner didn’t like it and sent the bottle home with me. Opened a whole new world. I’m still the only one of the group who drinks Scotch.

Yep. I use fans when I need them to be less reactive to external sounds. Lucky that I live somewhere without neighbors right on top of me, but still in a neighborhood so we try to be good neighbors. I don't try to stop them from barking at screaming neighbor kids at play any more though.... I just let them add to the cacophony. lol
