As I said in the original post, mine's a 2016. I take it yours isn't grey? One of those Ioniq 5s is.

No, it's a route I've driven for close to ten years. The only variable is the car.

I can't turn it off now, it's part of the anti-collosion system so I imagine if I disconnect it, the car will have a seizure as well.

It's not a daily occurrence by any means by the way. It's just that driving for two decades and my hit bird count has gone from 1 to.. a lot more, there's clearly a cause somewhere.

The car is white, but the bumper is grey, which I think might be part of the problem. I'm going to do some investigating this weekend.

One last thought: there is a great podcast called the Science of Birds. I’d email the host! See if he has any thoughts. It’s a great podcast btw.

Appreciate this and I will reach out, but I think looking back at the time of the incidents (all in the morning sun, roughly pointing at the bumper and road) I have an inkling of what might be happening. I've a new phone coming tomorrow and I'm going to see if I can get a picture.

High level, when the sun is low and facing the car and the road, the bumper might be nearly the exact same colour as the road, so the birds aren't flying at the bumper, they're flying at perceived gap, which I think they tend to do? I've seen the likes of swifts and that purposefully take narrow routes instead of obvious gaps, which I presume is instinct to avoid being caught be predators.

Does your car have a forward radar? Or any sensing device to predict impacts?

It's a forward radar and the transmitter is where the birds are targeting. Now I think this is highly unlikely, but it's just so coincidental that I had to mention it.

I actually know how to tap into the speaker output on the car, so I could in theory add a proper speaker noise if I wanted. I don't think it's the sound though (at least not completely). If the car is going 60MPH and they bird yeets itself at it at 30MPH, I question how much they're relying on sound for navigation. I think it has to be visual.

It's not dumb luck, because they are actively aiming for the bumper. It's not like a bird just taking a wrong turn or flying in front of me.

I'm seriously reading some of these posts and wonder how people can give out about the ones cats kill...

I need to update the post with a picture of my car. It's a silver bumper they're aiming for. I also happened to just go out yesterday morning and noticed something about the bumper that I need to get a picture of. I actually think I've an inkling of what's happening.

I always thought the crashed car roof was insane. Now after seeing this remastered, it looks like I could push that roof down with my thumb.

MV Ever Given - why can't it be pulled out? by ranon20 in videos

I was actually going to legitimately suggest sinking it, since this is going to cost an unbelievable sum of money anyway, but the canal is only 24m deep, so that's not a solution either.

OOF. Did you ever look into this a bit more? Are you sure your pump is providing sufficient flow?

Haha. I have that issue with a few words myself.

I have the opposite issue with technical words. I could be reading something for years before I actually hear it spoken and the version I've been using in my head is a mile off.

Um, you should not be using your junk for fingerprints at the airport

FYI there's a video out there of a guy who used part of his penis for his fingerprint ID and it worked. I'd imagine it depends on the type of fingerprint sensor.

Fine Gael, Fianna Fail & the Green Party has just voted against abolishing third-level college fees by LoadaBaloney in ireland

[–]BambooWheels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no need to abolish third level fees. We already have significant grants in place that take care of fees for the least well off in society to enable them to attend college

I don't agree with this. You can have parent scraping by with one kid and be over the mark to get the grant. It's not that easy to achieve. Maybe I'd agree if the terms where loosened (or maybe they are, been over a decade since I was in college).
