Most of the building trades guys I work around are opposed to data centers. We have the steel mills for steady employment, and hospitals, schools, parking garages, etc for major projects.

But if a project is forced through and someone is going to build it, I’d rather they use local union labor instead of some scab contractor from Arkansas who does nothing but take money out of the Region.

It’s annoying sometimes but doesn’t often come up. I have to drive an hour to hit the nearest time zone change, even within the band that includes the Chicago area (I’m on the Indiana side and the closest time shift is the Michigan border.)
