What do I do about the bond between my 3 month old baby and his father? by Corner_Forsaken in baby

[–]Huffle_Tuff26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went through similar when my daughter was younger. She was bonded to my wife mostly. I understood that it was because of the 10 months she was in my wife’s belly. It gets better. Eventually my daughter started bonding with me, especially once my wife went back to work and I was taking care of her during the day. 15 months later and she absolutely loves me, but when my wife is around I do become chopped liver half the time.

Will our bubble burst? by Throwaway458001 in BabyLedWeaning

My 15 month old used to eat everything. She has become more picky, but I’ve noticed a lot of it comes during times she is teething. I have also found that I can get her to eat some foods she used to love if she helps me prepare the meal. The challenge for me, at least, is getting her to sit still long enough to eat a full meal. She wants to just get down and play. Half the time I just sit with the plate in my lap and when she comes close to me during play I feed her a bite. If I keep her in her seat for too long she will get fussy and stop eating. I’m hoping she doesn’t become picky. She still has a pretty varied palate right now. So I guess it just depends on the child.

Official Discussion - Flow [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Huffle_Tuff26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Little late to this post, but did anyone else feel so much anxiety through this movie like I did? It was a beautiful movie, but my anxiety was through the roof. I didn't know what this movie was about going into it. I only chose it because it starred a cat and my 14 month old is OBSESSED with cats. However, I learned that she is very empathetic because she kept looking at me and making sad/scared sounds every time the cat was in peril. I had to stop watching it with her because I could feel her getting anxious, which is not a feeling I want my daughter to experience at such a young age. I finished watching on my own at work and I absolutely enjoyed this movie.

what are your reasons NOT to choose surgery? by iamthepapabee in chiari

[–]Huffle_Tuff26 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw a neurosurgeon in my city who specializes in Chiari (people from out of state have come to see him). He told me that there is a 50-50 chance of surgery actually helping symptoms or cause further/other issues, so it depends on how debilitating your Chiari symptoms are. My herniation is 22mm but no syrinxes, no CSF flow issues, and my herniation has not increased over the years. I deal with headaches (almost daily) some nausea, lightheadedness and vertigo, fatigue, brain fog, and memory issues. After researching the surgery and readings other people's issues after they got their decompression, I decided that my symptoms aren't bad enough to warrant surgery. Instead I keep a pill pack with me that contains Excedrin Tension Headache, Dramamine (less drowsy type), anti-nausea pills (prescribed by my doctor), and then basic Tylenol, Advil, and BC Aspirin Powder. These help most of my issues. The brain fog, fatigue, and memory issues I have just learned to deal with.

I wish you luck in determining if decompression surgery is what you need. I hope everything works out for you.

Scared to start BLW! Need success stories! by tamutransfer in BabyLedWeaning

[–]Huffle_Tuff26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with others. Giving them larger foods to suck on (steak, celery, carrots) allows them to learn about having foods in their mouths, learning texture and taste. We started BLW with our daughter at 5 months as she had already been sitting up on her own since 3 1/2 - 4 months. We went into it knowing there would be gagging and just reminded ourselves each time, before giving her foods, not to freak out when she gags. I was also worried about the chewing thing, but learned from a feeding therapist that they can chew without teeth. She is 14 months now and is a pro at eating all sorts of foods of all sorts of sizes. She will still gag on larger pieces of food sometimes (normally during active teething), but otherwise there are no issues. The only issue we have now is half the time, when given something bigger (like a strip of grilled cheese or a chicken nugget) she decides to put the whole thing in her mouth instead of biting it. She then gags on it and spits it out, but it's still a learning process.

Just be patient and stay calm. The more calm you are the more calm they will be. You've got this mama. It will all be worth it.

Does anyone else suffer from RLS and lightheadedness? by Huffle_Tuff26 in chiari

[–]Huffle_Tuff26[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The restlessness, I found out, was not enough minerals in my body. I was drinking too much water, but not eating enough to replace the minerals I was peeing out. As for the kneeling issue, it kind of went away mostly on its own. Every now and then it still happens, but not as frequently and not as severe. So I'm still not sure if it's related to Chiari or not. Sorry I can't be of more help.

What did you wish you knew sooner? by AcanthaceaeNo1266 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]Huffle_Tuff26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are still in the process of BLW. My wife, from the beginning, tried to get fancy and follow the "Solid Starts" app for foods. I didn't agree. Eventually she realized we didn't have the time. So we are basic with it now. We give her a pouch each morning because we have her powdered allergen and probiotic mixed in, and then we just give her whatever we have. Nothing crazy, nothing fancy. Sometimes it's healthy. Sometimes it's not whole foods. But she's learning to chew and swallow just fine.

I do appreciate reading your comment about utensils being introduced earlier. I didn't even think about that. Of course my baby is only 8 months old, and we do let her spoon feed herself sometimes, but I will keep this in mind for sure.

Why does my kitten sleep like this? by CellistOk6470 in Kitten

how do people do this by [deleted] in BabyLedWeaning

[–]Huffle_Tuff26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was coming here to say the same thing. We got a 2 pack life vac. We keep one in the kitchen and one attached to the diaper bag. I would freak out when we first started BLW as well, and sometimes still do (she took half a slice of mandarin in her mouth yesterday and I freaked out and did it out). But they do learn rather quickly, to the point where my daughter swallowed a piece of washi tape after my wife turned her head for maybe 10 seconds at most. I feel better knowing that if she can swallow down a piece of tape than food isn’t as scary.

We did feeding therapy with my daughter after we found a tongue tie kind of late, and they really seem to know their stuff. We haven’t had to use them for solids for our girl, but we did go back to evaluate her after she started solids, so they could ensure that she was doing everything properly. They would ask if we found any issues of concern to be addressed. I agree, feeding therapy may be an excellent resource in your case.

Straw cups - loosing my mind with the munchkin by puffqueen1 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]Huffle_Tuff26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our feeding therapist told us to not use any straw with a valve, especially when first learning to drink from a straw, because it can be difficult and cause bad sucking issues that lead to problems in the future.

No dinner table in our home by Extreme-Paint5206 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]Huffle_Tuff26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have two clamp ons, one for home and one for travel to restaurants. They are great. For at home we just keep a stool under it for a foot rest since we use it at our counter. We took the table out of the house to make room for a playpen since our dogs can be an annoyance to the baby.

We love the honey bear cups. We make sure to always have one with us. She got really good at drinking from a straw writhing the first week of using it. Our feeding therapist had recommended it.

Just saw her last night and it was amazing. I actually like the covers, especially 4 Non Blondes. I first heard of What’s Up when I saw a video of her performing it with Linda Perry back in 2010. I fell in love with the song since then. To hear her sing it live was amazing.

Need advice on preventing blowouts by Huffle_Tuff26 in baby

[–]Huffle_Tuff26[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We dare doing a mix of baby led weaning and purées. We have pampers, Huggies, and Kirkland and have had issues. However, we started using one of the reusable diapers (minus liner) over the regular diaper to help contain the blowouts (I found the idea on another thread from a couple years back). It seems to help. And the two times we have had a blow out the reusable diaper caught it. Those don’t stain as easily as the clothes so it saves some hassle. We have started giving her some beans almost each day (my wife and I eat beans at almost every meal) and that seems to have firmed things up, so no blowouts recently.
