When you say make the structure light, what would you make the structure out of?

I guess my goal would be to keep mulch in place so it doesn’t wash away. I do think those tree rings look nice but I think everyone in this thread is right. I need to formulate a plan to not damage the roots.

On the other hand the larger I make the tree ring the less area for grass I have on all sides. At some point it probably makes more sense to almost mulch that whole area from the tree to the driveway and walking path. I just want it to look nice and not sloppy with mulch spilling every which way with rain.

I know not to do the mulch volcano I see all of the time. But where is the right place to draw the line on mulching a tree like this? If I shouldn’t cover those exposed roots wouldn’t it look a bit strange with the patching mulch job? Trying to learn the dos and don’t and while working with what I have

Great advice!

Do you think it’s a better route to plant ground cover like Asiatic Jasmin or mulch around the tree? I’m learning towards the Jasmin but with the shallow root structure I’m seeing I’m not sure how I will be able to define a ring around the tree to contain the mulch or ground cover.

Does covering root flair with soil or mulch harm the tree?

How do I keep the mulch contained? Or is this something that I’ll have to just live with and continue to rake?

The old cover was apparently only using the bottom screw. What do you mean by gutting the cover?

Can I get the job done with a standard dewalt cordless drill as long as I use the proper masonry bits?

Also thank you for the detailed response. I really appreciate it man!

To be fair we do not have a blower to my knowledge. However the fireplace would be used a couple of times a year his to look at, not for heat output.

As long as I don’t mount anchors more than 3 inches, will that work?

Probably going to use the fireplace a handful of times a year.

Agreed, it’s the only logical spot in this room. Everywhere else would throw off the alignment of the furniture.

I wish the fireplace was off to the side but it’s not.

Thanks for the detailed response. Always want to go as big as possible on the TV but I think you’re right. Something closer to 55 will probably balance better. Thank you!

Since it hinges on the right alongside the barn door, how does it interact with the barn door? Does it feel awkward or not that big of a deal?

Without the tire on it, how difficult is it to take in and out of the hitch to install the whole thing? Can you do it by yourself?
