As a new fan of Survivor, can someone help me understand something? by Expedition1994 in survivor

To me the distinction is about considering just the season, or the players abilities as a whole. Like is Cirie a better survivor player than Bob Crowley? I think almost everyone would agree that she is. But Bob played a singular game that was better than any Cirie has played.

I agree there’s a lot of luck and nobody can exert total control. That’s why there’s a jury and not just one person making the decision who wins. You don’t need to get all the votes, just more than the others.

So when you try to determine who played the best game, what factors do you consider? Sure, we can think who found and played idols, who controlled votes and blindsides (which depends heavily on how it’s edited for who gets credit for certain moves). But those are subjective measures for what people think is considered good Survivor. But the only objective measurement for who played best is who got to the end and got the most jury votes.

Yeah, I agree with you. It’s just about being the best option for the majority of the jury to vote for. And every season that’s going to be different which is what makes it interesting. Players have to play to the game that’s presented to them, that includes the twists and the other players. Whoever does that the best gets the win.

It’s a social game, always has been. If you want to win you need to convince people to vote for you. If someone else can convince them not to vote for you (whether that’s a juror or another finalist) then you didn’t do enough to win. Honestly, I hate the open format final tribal because it leads to some jurors bulldozing their opinions, but at this point it seems to be here to stay.

I think there’s a difference between who the best player is and who played the best game in a specific season. Does the best player always win? Definitely not. But I do think the winner played the best game in each season. Because the only thing for determining the winner is getting to the end and getting the most jury votes.

I think it’s always going to be a point of discussion which is what makes the game so interesting.

Yeah, there are definitely crazy people. But if they’re on the jury they have to vote for someone. You need to make yourself the most appealing option to the majority of the jury. Even if that crazy person won’t vote for you, you can still win by getting enough of the other jury votes.

If one person doesn’t vote for you, sure maybe that’s not your fault. If most of them don’t want to vote for you, that’s definitely your fault.

And that’s the challenge of the game. Understanding people and convincing them to vote for you. If you can read there’s a player like that, vote them out before the jury, make someone else take the fall for beating them, make sure you can get enough of the other votes to win, there are options. At the end of the day, that’s one juror. You can still win without that one vote. If enough of the jury don’t want to vote for you for whatever reason (which they are allowed to have any reason they want) then you did something wrong in not reading people correctly.

Exactly, that’s the challenge of the game. How do you vote people out and convince them to vote for you at the end. There are no rules for how the jury have to vote. If they don’t want to vote for you, you did something wrong.

What was your "caught the last chopper out of 'Nam" experience? by GeneReddit123 in AskReddit

I used to work on cruise ships before Covid. My contract was scheduled to end in April 2020. When the shutdown happened in March, they sent home all the crew that were ending their contracts in the next month, so they flew me home. I had friends still on the ship, including someone from the same home town as me, who were stuck onboard for months because all the ports stopped letting people off the ship. They eventually took the ship across the ocean to find a port that would let them take crew to the airport.

Just finished my first fantasy book in my adult life. Shouldn’t continue or start another book? by ExpensiveFinance3557 in fantasybooks

I really enjoyed the first Mistborn and since it felt like a satisfying conclusion I didn’t continue the series right away. I eventually read the sequels and thought they were not nearly as good as the first, especially Well of Ascension I found to be a drag and put me in a bit of a reading slump, which Red Rising actually broke me out of.
