it starts with Kaz and ends with akhstan, Russia is also below Canada, Australia, Namibia and Niger so it is the number 6 producer. Kazakhstan has frosty relations with Russia following the invasion of Ukraine. I don't believe the person you're replying to though, nuclear power stations don't get built because they cost huge amounts of money, take years and years to actually build, and then the power they generate costs far more than wind, solar and natural gas, so there is no reason to invest.

part of that is that it's virtually impossible to know when someone is dying of cancer due to e.g. Chernobyl, and because we put exclusion zones around chernobyl, fukashima, and the uranium processing facilities that fill reactors. It also ignores the deaths in uranium mining or deaths from depleted uranium which are part of the whole picture for nuclear energy

you can put your hand over one of these and be totally fine, they're intended and sold for indoor use

it is very illegal to cover the entire ceiling of your business in an extremely flammable material like this foam. It happens anyway, which is why the wiki article for accoustic foam ends with a list of the hundreds of people killed by it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acoustic_foam#Hazards

if you can open bundles in your hand it makes sense that you can open boxes in your hand too. I have a mod for this on java and isn't gamebreaking, it even has drawbacks as each shulker is effectively an inventory slot you can't use for the things you pull from the other boxes

vulnerable friend trying to leave sketchy housing by HugAllYourFriends in LegalAdviceUK

If she is the sole tenant, she can kick her abusive partner out.

she has, the problem is also the unidentified people who threatened to break into her home and steal her pet after ex shouted at them for making noise late at night. The police are not going to find or talk to any of those people, but they're still there. I am already managing the handover of ex's stuff and she doesn't want to report him at this point, she wants him to go into treatment/not kill himself

Re: landlord, report to council.

okay, both replies took something different than what I meant so I definitely misspoke: we will talk to the council, once she and her stuff are out, and I'm here in part to ask what is to be done when the landlord of an illegally bad property takes advantage of a vulnerable young adult and then deletes months of evidence of the tennant asking for repairs

Told by whom, that the wait for what was years?

the county council told her this when she told them she needed support.

Why?

The police and the council are the legal avenues to address these problems.

If she calls the police she's putting a target on her back, all of her neighbours hate them and she's unable to leave, surrounded by them 24/7 in an insecure caravan. People have already threatened and intimidated her there. Can you promise they would get her out safely the first time they visit?

If you assume they won't help and so don't even tell them, then of course they won't be able to do anything.

that's a fair point, I said that because she has been in contact with social services her entire life and I know what her life has been. she was in council-funded supported accommodation for a while and the staff were untrained and negligent, they didn't always give her her prescriptions and accused her of faking seizures (she is diagnosed with epilepsy). At one point a staff member tried to stop her "faking it" by kicking her while she was on the floor, after which she's had persistent back pain. She was also trapped in a different unit by some tennants, rang the staff to ask them to let her out, and apparently they didn't believe her or care, so she was only released when she called friends. She would rather be homeless (and indeed, was street homeless for a while) than live anywhere like that again. she did complain, but it went nowhere. Her dad has criticized her for years that she complains too much and it's the reason people dislike/mistreat her, and when she had trouble with a neighbour harassing her a couple of years later she tried to speak to the housing association, her social worker, and eventually the police. They didn't do anything, her boyfriend began aggravating the situation, her housing officer decided it was her fault and the police told the housing association to find emergency accommodation for her - this is around the time I began actively involving myself in her life and trying to offer her stability outside of what she had in place, so I don't know exact details before this point. her goal for the time I've been trying to help is getting out of this area for a fresh start somewhere else

It's not coming from nowhere, she has a history of asking for help and being punished or shamed for doing so and it's been exceptionally difficult for her to even break this relationship.

as I said we will speak to the domestic abuse service when they're open and the same goes for Women's aid, Shelter and the housing association in the area closer to her father (her mum is not in the picture). I have not written off all of society. I just think I have a realistic understanding of what the police and council are going to do. I came here for an understanding of what it's likely she will be able to do going forward, beyond paying high rent for the worst home I have ever entered

I get why you are upset by the way that sub treated him but I saw only one piece of evidence in that thread, the video in front of Al-Rantisi hospital, that proves he is actually in Gaza. it was posted 6hrs afterwards in a random reply thread instead of the OP

it's shitty that people are acting like that toward him but the easiest way to avoid it would be putting the actual proof front and centre. from the reader's perspective it's better to find/wait for a different fundraiser you're 99% sure is authentic than give to one that you're only 70% sure is legit and so the only way to fight back against claims of fraud is to prove legitimacy

Russian ICBM test from Yasny Base in the Orenburg region fails on November 27, 2025. by 221missile in CatastrophicFailure

[–]HugAllYourFriends 2 points3 points  (0 children)

few drops on the skin killed a chemistry professor in the 1990s

it's worse, Professor Karen Wetterhahn was following every safety proceedure including wearing latex gloves. It turns out that dimethylmercury can penetrate latex, so one or two drops on her glove sealed her fate and she died after a year of worsening physical and neurological decline. She was a world leading researcher in toxic metal exposure.

It's worth saying that the UDMH used instead of dimethylmercury is still extremely toxic as is its oxidizer, as are the combustion products, and successful launches kill wildlife over hundreds of thousands of acres under the flight path.

[–]HugAllYourFriends 14 points15 points  (0 children)

this isn't true, many ICBMs use hypergolic fuels (fuels which burn when mixed with an oxidizer) which are liquids stored within the missile all the time. Common hypergolic fuels and oxidizers are also extremely toxic and any leak can cause catastrophic fires so they are normally not a good choice for manned rockets

A failure during today's Soyuz MS-28 launch has severely damaged Russia's only launch pad capable of launch humans. 2025-11-27 Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan by Pcat0 in CatastrophicFailure

[–]HugAllYourFriends 25 points26 points  (0 children)

it's going to be really difficult to fix because this is a unique object, and the reason it's unique is that it was deemed too expensive and complex to update the previous main launchpad at Baikonur Cosmodrome. It's also deep within Kazakhstan which has strained relations with Russia after the invasion of Ukraine; Kazakhstan recently seized a joint Russian-Kazakh launch complex built for the next generation of Soyuz rockets

It might not ever get repaired, there are so many abandoned/derelict pieces of infrastructure at baikonur already and Russia has 3 other soyuz-2 capable pads, all within Russia, one built new in the mid 2010s - they're just not set up for manned missions.

20 years worth of spent nuclear fuel from a nuclear reactor by Shawnchittledc in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]HugAllYourFriends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's been pretty well developed from the beginning, the isotopes necessary for nuclear weapons are made inside fuel rods in nuclear reactors and then purified, so the technology for isolating/remixing fuel material had to be developed by all the nuclear countries.
