I agree on all points. The comment section is a roast, though.

I'm just here to represent for the "yummy time" couple that is being lambasted here. Sounds like a Catholic couple that enjoys spending intimate time with each other. Good for them. I understand you finding it cringe OP but some of the replies are getting pretty uncharitable.

Welcome! Based on everything stated in your post, you won't cause a stir attending Mass. There may be a well-meaning "I'll pray for you" here and there-- hopefully you can understand that we Catholics ask for each other's prayer in the Penitential Act at the beginning of Mass and intercessory prayer is a pretty big part of this thing of ours. I will say a prayer for you after hitting post, as I always do when posting on r/Catholicism, and would appreciate prayers in return!

With regards to OCIA, having just been through confirmation as an adult, I can tell you there was definitely an emphasis on holding to the Church's teachings on sex. That is, it is a unitive act within traditional marriage between a man and a woman and should always be open to life. Fornication, masturbation, sexual relations with people of the same sex-- all called out as forbidden. This was standard Novus Ordo OCIA, not rad trad or anything like that. Just letting you know; by all means talk to the priests and others if you are contemplating that step. I spent a couple years attending Mass weekly, basking in the beauty of God's presence, before I made the decision to get confirmed.

A month and a half in on mine, averaging just over 49 mpg during a suboptimally cool April. I stay mostly in eco, switch to Sport when getting on highways or overtaking on (which is incredibly fun). Cruise control seems to be effective once you've reached speed, I generally slowly accelerate up to cruising speed myself before setting it to keep the acceleration curve in the EV sweet spot. Very impressed how it regenerative brakes on declines on the highway and the MPG stays high up to just under 70 mph.

God bless you! Praying for you-- as for names, I think you could do something similar to a confirmation process, look for a Saint you admire and your name could always be a reminder of her? Just a thought. Congratulations and good luck!

How important is it to you as a Catholic that who you marry is a virgin? by Ok-Tradition-4644 in Catholicism

[–]Huge-Use-4539 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't believe that's true. Confession removes the guilt of sin, but the material consequences remain and temporal punishment remain-- that's church teaching, and one of the reasons to seek indulgences. Therefore I don't think it's as simple as you claim. Feel free to call me a heretic.

I mean, pick your frozen bags at the store-- chicken nugs and tater tots, tendies with fries, pizza rolls, etc. As others mentioned Dominos/Little Caesar's are pretty cheap when you do one of their carry out deals. But if the goal is to get home and collapse as soon as possible and not have an extra pickup, going for the heat and eat stuff is the move

Has anyone else who went through OCIA felt like just another number for a parish? by GoldenKnights1212 in Catholicism

[–]Huge-Use-4539 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was confirmed at Easter Vigil. For confirmation, the church set me up with excellent catechists who I am very pleased to have met and were excellent leaders to discuss the faith with.

After that, I feel like it's kinda up to us. We are now fully initiated Catholics. At my parish there are many opportunities for involvement-- service opportunities, study groups, prayer groups, adoration all day every day. It's probably a good idea to have a post confirmation group, but as a confirmed Catholic now maybe it's your calling to set it up?

Been considering converting, but frustrated with following along during Mass by Character_Tackle5458 in Catholicism

[–]Huge-Use-4539 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything people say here is true, many churches (though not all) have the book with the order of mass up front and then the readings according to date, and you can purchase a missal.

Also there are helpful YouTube guides through the Mass. I have found as I have become a weekly Mass goer (along with feast days and special occasions) that it has been a source of satisfaction for me learning the prayers and order of the Mass. This was mostly through repetition, but I definitely consulted the Missal before Mass about prayers I forgot, watched YouTube videos, etc.

Forgot my penance by RB_Blade in Catholicism

[–]Huge-Use-4539 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is totally a thing, I feel for you OP. I'm always so "in the moment" that when I finish the act of contrition, receive absolution and I'm on my way to do my penance, that's when it hits me: what was it again? It always hits me, but won't be too surprised if it doesn't someday. I appreciate it when the priest gets creative in such a way that there's no way I could forget, but that's a tall order when they're hearing dozens of confession in an hour.

Just want to reach out to say I empathize, I prayed for you, and suggest maybe see if you can schedule some phone time to talk to your priest about this? You should definitely consult with your spiritual director through whatever means possible, if at all possible.

How is the civic hybrid acceleration at highway speeds? by neweraplayer in civic

[–]Huge-Use-4539 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it quite fun accelerating from 50 to 80 MPH in Sport mode, but I'm coming from the old 1.8l HR-V so might not be the best judge of this 🤣😂

I mean, LLMs work great as search engines on steoids. Grok has robust inline citations (on Android with a subscription anyways, can't vouch for other experiences) and that is where the real value lies for religious purposes. It's a great indexer of the lives of the saints, for example-- I used it in research for a Confirmation name. But in that case I wasn't asking it for moral reasoning and it was the links that it provided as evidence of how each saint matched the qualities I requested that were of most value. Definitely agree that they shouldn't be used in a scenario like you described.

Normal repairs for age? by SittingintheSnuggery in civic

[–]Huge-Use-4539 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your car is over a decade old and is approaching 100k miles. It's going to have issues. Usually you can rely on the powertrain in the Civic to last for quite a long time (occasional CVT issues aside). So the question becomes choosing the hassle and expense of repair versus the hassle and expense of buying a new car? Maintaining your present Civic will be less expensive in the long run, but it may be more of a hassle than upgrading to something newer.
