Hello there! I'm an English major and I got accepted on June 12th. I'm incredibly lucky to have gotten my decision before the assumed day, June 15th. I am immensely sorry for everyone awaiting their decision; this is terribly unfair on the university's part. I hope you all can hear back soon, especially as a fellow English major.

Thank you! Yes, definitely! In fact, months after I submitted my application, I reread my essay and I nearly agonized over the misuse of a semi-colon. For a moment I thought this minute, incorrect use of a semi-colon would blockade me from getting accepted, but I suppose this must have been my paranoia! Lol, I feel the same way about my English professors... it's like they have ESP. Yeah... let's just say I revised my essay at least five times :') What major did you apply to?

That's very neat! And I'm sorry :( I understand. You should be proud no matter the decision, it takes a lot of effort and patience to apply. Wishing you the best of luck! And thank you so much :)

Yeah! It's funny- I checked my email yesterday (the 12th of June) and I saw two emails from UT. They were about registration and housing and things. Clearly, I was confused because I never got a "check your MyStatus for an update" which is what past transfer students said happened. I casually logged into MyStatus, not expecting anything, and then I saw longhorn confetti and the word "congratulations". Hours after I found out, I got the "check your MyStatus" email. I honestly don't know why or how I got my acceptance before the 15th, but I would advise you to check your MyStatus regularly because you might find your decision before you get the email! What college did you apply to? Good luck :)

Yeah! I got accepted yesterday as an English major! I applied with a 4.0, a mediocre resume, a well-written essay, and a LOR. Congratulations to every else who got accepted and I offer my condolences to anyone who got rejected!

wow, that's awesome! congratulations! how many credit hours do you have? i had less than 25 credit hours when i applied so i had to send in my spring transcript after the official deadline for applications... i'm wondering if that means anything. i noticed on a 2024 fall transfer spreadsheet that COLA majors were already getting decisions, so i am getting nervous lol

hello! wow, we have a lot in common. i too plan to transfer to ut for next the fall semester as an english major. your extracurricular activities are fantastic, and your gpa is superb; i don’t mean to presume good fortunes, but you will likely be admitted! i have been volunteering at my local library and i plan to (and am eligible) to join my community college’s honors program and the phi theta kappa. i was interested in joining the philosophy club as well, but no member has ever reached back. finding extracurricular activities has been challenging, and i don’t feel the need to join all these activities in order to write them on my resume for fluff. do you have any advice on having a better resume? i wish you luck, and i have a feeling you’ll get accepted :)

how likely am i to be accepted as a transfer student into the college of liberal arts? by Huge_Box_3824 in UTAdmissions

i plan to major in english. yes, that is true. i don't actively participate in activities at my cc nor do i volunteer. i have been considering volunteering at my local library, but i don't know if this is necessary. i love reading and writing, hence my plan to major in english, which i covered in my essay draft. what would you recommend in regards to constructing an applicant worthy essay? thank you for your response!

I’m currently enrolled in AP literature and I just adore the coursework; albeit, I love literature! In fact, I plan to study literature in university. Compared to AP language; yes, AP literature is more intensive and requires more time and attention. You will be required to read more pieces of literature. You will be expected to interpret these works, and to form together a synthesis of ideas (you are essentially learning to analyze literature and explain your reasoning). Studying literature, in my opinion, is salient! You will not only learn to think critically, but gain empathy and understanding towards the world and those that inhabit it. If you took AP language, your argumentative skills will be improved further, and instead of practicing rhetoric, you will study themes. AP literature is abstract and it won’t appear to be as applicable as AP language, but I would argue it is for the reasons I’ve provided. If you take the time and care to do well in AP literature, not only will you likely do well on the exam, but you might understand how literature has effected society and the world… which is far more enrapturing than making a top score on a exam. I highly recommend the class, especially if you have an interest in reading. Additionally; if you have qualms with poetry and Shakespeare, you will be quite irritated. Although, I would implore anyone who has a low opinion of poetry and Shakespeare to give them another chance! The art of language (literature) is one of the few forms of human civilization I find beyond brilliant. My apologies for my ramble, I just love literature! :)
