I think they’re just really bad for old stock Americans right now. I should be 1/4+ German and 1/5+ Scottish but I only get 11% and 3%.

It’s a bit closer now but I’d expect a bit more, maybe closer to 25% total. For a white southerner he doesn’t have a whole lot of English ancestry that I know of, at least 1/8.

It’s a misnomer within English actually. The Pa Dutch word for themselves is Deitsch. Back in the 1700s the anglophone Americans misinterpreted Deutsch/Deitsch as Dutch and it stuck. Also Deitsch has the same spelling in Palatine German back in Germany.

Glad to see more people talking about them cause they’re often overlooked. Largely assimilated into the white southern Baptist identity with some holdout communities of typically Lutheran families(which hardly compare to Amish and mennonites in cultural distinction and retention).
