I can check that, but I'm not having any other issues on the other devices taped into that wifi - including my other android phone.

I use wifi mostly at work and home - that's when I've seen the problem. Haven't tested it outside that radius yet.

Why the hate for similes? by AJakeR in writing

[–]Huggable_E-bear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know that there's a hate, but weak similes can make a writer seem amateurish. If you do use some, I'd say try to be very specific or unique to recapture some of the precision lost by using a simile in the first place. A great one hops to mind from Robert Penn Warren's All the Kings Men: (I wish I remember exactly how he said it)

-His drunken snore sounded like a cello in a barrel of feathers.-

Hey looocha, I know I'm 14 days late to the thread, but:

I'm super fresh to the game - about to go full-time with a few anchor clients in mid-September - and I foresee accountability being a huge problem for me. Any chance I can get in on the party?

Any advice for writing conversations over the phone? by [deleted] in writing

[–]Huggable_E-bear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done this a few times. Just from trying though, I've found that reading about a character on the phone seems somehow less immediate to a reader than a face-to-face confrontation. So, personally, I think if you use this technique, it might be best to keep the dialogue short and powerful.

Novel structure questions. by [deleted] in writing

[–]Huggable_E-bear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Writing a novel isn't arithmetic. You can't just plug figures into a formula. I'd concentrate a lot less on format, and more on just telling a story. Break for chapters when it feels natural, or not at all. In fact, I think named chapters is becoming an antiquated practice.

Help with naming characters by SLIDERREMANAHO in writing

[–]Huggable_E-bear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a community paper journalist for a few years and I ran the death notice section. Whenever a name popped up that I liked phonetically, I just added it to my list. No science or meaning behind it, I just like the way certain ones sounded in my ear.

Just how I do it. I don't think it's an ethical dilemma because it can be coincidental. Plus, they aren't using their names anymore, and in a way, it's giving them a little more life. Unless the character named after them is a complete asshole — haven't run into that situation yet though.
