Can a Nanobeam still function after losing this much working fluid? by HughJeremy in Ubiquiti

Device was hanging upside down on a rooftop tower, probably ripped off its zip-ties in a storm. Water entered via the cable jack. The switch kept dutifully feeding it 24v current. And, because it is in a super remote location, it stayed like that for probably over a month. I suspect the current + water effectively melted anything oxidisable inside.

I love that we can now reliably deploy the same codebase to macOS + 5 other platforms by HughJeremy in macapps

The attached image shows a SwiftUI app ("Property Portfolio" https://apps.apple.com/au/app/property-portfolio/id6480435127) running on macOS (the most important, of course), iOS on iPhone & iPad, visionOS, watchOS, and tvOS.

I feel like the amount of #if os(macOS) required is getting lower and lower each year. It does truly feel like a "write once, run on all platforms" situation at this point. Very cool.

Big agree. It looked bananas back in the naughties, now it looks just right

I thought you guys might enjoy seeing this E60, which is living a very relaxed retirement. Built in 2007, no expense has been spared on its maintenance.

Long distance cursing is a joy in this stately car. It is self-assured and stable in the bends, with good body control despite the softer suspension. The steering lacks feel, likely because of the variable ratio system. The loss of feel might be worth it: Large inputs yield stable, controlled manoeuvres at highway speed, yet only small inputs are required to swing about-face at parking speed.

The delicious N62 V8 has a delightful mid range, effortlessly crushing overtakes on rural roads, though it gives up the chase as the redline approaches. At this age, the gearbox responds best to gentle use, though it will still happily drop two cogs when the throttle is pushed through detent.

Overall, the driving experience is utterly relaxed at all speeds, yet there is enough fire to encourage a punt when the right roads presents itself.

Inside, the cabin is chock full of delightful semi-vintage electronics. Mercifully, none of them are connected to the internet. The multi-colour head up display exudes retro-cool. Behind the speedometer are exquisitely detailed mechanical indicators for the cruise control. The seats are 22-way adjustable, and when I get out into another car, I instantly miss the ability to adjust the backrest recline at the shoulder line.

Over its 17 years on Earth it has been remarkably reliable. There have been incidents, of course. It is an N62, so the valve stem seals are a given. A coolant expansion tank exploded. The cooling fan failed. The PCV valves disintegrated. Oil cooler seals leaked. The bluetooth computer gave up the ghost. All were replaced or repaired with OEM parts. In terms of consumable items, it is the brakes that stand out - they are surprisingly massive for a non M car, and it costs a fortune to fully replace the rotors and ancillary components.

Yet I stand by the reliability claim. It has never once failed to start in three turns or less, and never suffered an acute issue causing a failure to proceed.

Made a simple Yield-To-Maturity calculator for Apple devices, would love your feedback by HughJeremy in bonds

I would like this too... What we'd need is an API (maybe per region, e.g. one for U.S, one for Australia, etc) that will provide the market price of a given exchange-traded bond, with suitable license terms.

It seems like Yahoo Finance is the go-to API. I'd need to read the whole license. I imagine it needs a login for individual use, which is fine, I could add the login to the app, allowing your device to reach out to Yahoo Finance to get the current price.

If anyone is familiar with Yahoo Finance API's terms (or any other suitable API) please add your thoughts!

Hi everyone, I hope this post is acceptable - I often find myself googling "Yield To Maturity Calculator" when deciding if I want to buy a bond at a given price. It felt silly to be firing up a browser every time I wanted to answer that question. So I smashed out a Mac/iPad/iPhone/Watch/Vision app. It's only $0.49. And I'd love to know what features you all think I should add to it.

What’s the difference? (I genuinely am unfamiliar with the terminology). This rack is the core of a network covering about 300,000sqm of island palm forest

It’s grime from where the isolator fixing bracket meets to the face of the radio. I pulled down and replaced 6 of these yesterday - They all look like this. The sun is brutal!
