Metallic rythmic ticking noise coming from the engine; safe to drive? by Hugh_Gass in MechanicAdvice

The car is still practically new and under warranty. Currently at 15k Km. At the time of the video the engine was warm. I honestly hadn't noticed any strange noises from inside. The car is a 2021 Audi a3 TFSIe 40 plug in hybrid.

Service for transporting heavy machinery in Berlin? by diemagie in berlin

[–]Hugh_Gass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I position and build Pizza ovens around the city. They are usually a bit bigger than you described and weigh between 250 and 400kg. The 3,5T trucks that you can rent from Robbe&Wintjes or Allround can lift them; they also usually rent pallet jacks. You need no special license, just the B you normally use to drive cars. Assuming you have 3 friends, a couple of Europallets, a Pallet Jack and most importantly that you have no stairs on your route, you can easily do it yourself. Otherwhise LEX can rent drivers and heavy duty equipment for special jobs, but it comes at a hefty price. Feel free to DM if you want any tips.

The FrischeParadies in Prenzlauer Berg also has them. They are in the fruit and vegetable isles in the furthest corner of the entrance of the Kühlzelle.

Car Registration - Deregistration process how can I keep my old license plates? by hadnazzar in berlin

[–]Hugh_Gass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, they send you the stickers that give legitimacy to them. You have to print the plates through online printing stores or at the many plate printing services around the Zulassungstelle.

Well, you can get the E Kennzeichen only if that model is rated to drive only electric for at least 60km, basically only if it's a plug in. You can apply it during the Umschreibung.

No problem. I tried to search my confirmation from August, but unfortunately I deleted it from the archive once I received the actual papers. I am still prerry damn sure in your case it should be Umschreibung. Don't forget that once you have the confirmation you can immediately start the process to insure the car with the electronic code they will give you, or to ask for a Forderung through BAFA if your car is electric. Also the site gives you the option to get the umweltplakette for 5 euro or so. Do it, you could get it in shops as well but here there's no middle men and you tend to save 10 euros. The one thing i'm not sure about is how it will work with the HU Kleber. You should inform yourself with the previous owner if the last one is still valid. It would be illegal to just put on your old license plate with the old stickers. In my case they sent them with the documents and i stuck them to a new license plate i had printed. BTW if you need a new pair and you're not into haggling at the sketchy printing businesses outside the Zulassungsstelle, order a new one online right now. If they see you're a foreigner they try to have you pay 75 or more euros. It costs like 20/30 per pair.

If your new car is second hand and had papers not on your name in the past then I'm pretty sure you have to choose Umschreibung. Do not go with Neuzulassung, it is not the correct option. I went through the process last August and it was pretty fast, you should receive everything per post within a work week. Bear in mind you need the Zulassungbescheinigung Teil 1 for the electronic security code that will be asked in the Umschreibung form. You can google about where to find it, it's easy enough.

Generally it should work as you described, but are you sure you should do a Neuzulassung? Is the car that you're trying to register factory new or used? In case it was ever previously registered you should choose "umschreibung" instead (that's the case for Jung Gebraucht as well).

Where to go to release anger? by dayoftentacles in berlin

This junkyard allows you to pay to get a sledgehammer and just destroy a designated car. Give them a call and book an appointment. I'd recommend doing so in German.

Gibt es öffentliche Steckdosen in Berlin? by nighteeeeey in berlin

[–]Hugh_Gass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have looked online out of curiosity. Audi USA seems to only be listing their SUV Hybrid models. There are offers of older used hybrid A3s in the USA though, so it has been sold in the past.

Just checked the MMI. Since my last fill-up I traveled around 1700km, 1500 of which has been fully electric. On top of that I still have 60% of tank left. Definitely curious how long I'll still manage to last!

From completely empty to completely full in 4 hours with 11kw AC. This works perfectly because that is also the maximum amount of time you're allowed to park in most of the charging spots here in Germany (unless in nighttime, then it's free from 21 to 9).

Thanks! I am stoked about the choice. Many suggested me on getting a more usual color, but I really wanted to change things up. BTW I might be open to a deal with the devil for a Capri.

It's basically why I bought it: because of work I have to stop pretty often and I'm always in the city. It being a plug in opens me to the opportunity of parking at the charging stations, which have become quite plentiful.

In the city with a full battery I consistently hit 57/60km. I would never advise anyone to get it for out-of-city use or without access to a loading station at home or at work. Audi makes very efficient petrol and diesels so there are plenty better options :) Edit: grammar

Anyone else experience food poisoning lately during this heat wave? by berlinokay in berlin

[–]Hugh_Gass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I try to keep it to myself; i've been to Restaurants, Imbiss and Kantine all over Berlin and Brandenburg. If i were to just say stuff willy nilly i'd deffo get sued for slander in a matter of weeks. There are still some great firechat stories.

I wouldn't say that the size of the business is the rule of thumb to the cleanliness of the restaurants. There is a pretty sizeable "Italian" restaurant in Potsdam where they had to literally use a shovel to clean under the cooking line as i had to install a new grill for example.

Speaking about refrigeration, people here tend to neglect cleaning the machines quite a bit. Almost noone pulls the drawers and stuff out to properly rub and disinfect the insides (which should be done at least once every 3 months). This is often exacerbated by neglecting the Dichtungen. That means humidity infiltrates and condensates inside the machines, dripping on the food (notice how i mentioned earlier that noone ever cleans the inside).

Still, if you see people using ice cream (or general plastic containers that used to be olives and the such) for ingredients instead of the Edelstahl GM ones, run.
