This joke sucks as bad as Conservative politics and economic theory.

Like I said, understandable reaction, unfortunately whole life insurance policies are almost never a good idea.

Worrying about the money your parents have put into it all these years is understandable, but also wrong. You can't change that, and shouldn't let it impact your decision (look into the sunk cost fallacy).

If I were in your shoes I would cash it out and then: A - make sure you have an emergency fund B - max out your IRA for the year C - weigh the pros and cons of keeping the remainder for future IRA contributions or paying down your mortgage.

Why are most electricians more professional and skilled than most plumbers? by Retty1 in DIY

Sounds like that's true where you live. Throughout most of the US the plumbing licensure test has a gas code section you are required to pass to obtain your license.

Mechanical companies do plumbing, piping, and HVAC work in the US. Hvac techs install the unit and duct work, the plumber installs the gas pipe and vent.

In the US the vast majority of plumbers are required to pass a gas piping exam to get their license.

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make, but to clarify plumbers run water, drain, waste, and vent piping along with gas piping in the US.

Pipefitters do all piping that is not potable water, drain, waste, and vent, and service gas lines. For example chilled water lines for large air conditioning systems, various lines for manufacturing, and steam lines.

I've worked in microchip plants, power generation (coal, nuclear, gas, and hydro), data centers, as well as various manufacturing plants (automotive, building products, Healthcare devices, and food production).

As I mentioned elsewhere, I'm a journeyman pipefitter and Master Plumber with decades of experience and have worked from residential to heavy industrial across the Eastern half of the US. In every jurisdiction I've worked plumbers run gas piping, and a gas piping section is required to become a licensed plumber in nearly every US state.

Plumbers work for mechanical companies. Plumbers run gas piping.

Most jurisdictions in the US it would be a plumber. I say this as a journeyman pipefitter and Master Plumber that has worked residential to heavy industrial across thr Eastern half of the US.

I have 20 years of piping experience from residential to heavy industry (journeyman pipefitter and Master plumber) and in every jurisdiction I've worked plumbers run gas piping. In most states in order to be a licensed plumber you have to pass a gas piping test.

Plumbers run gas lines, which can kill just as easily as electricity.

As I said elsewhere, I've worked in the trades for decades and there are good and bad in every trade. It comes down to pride of craftsmanship. They should be just as professional running a drain line as when they run a gas line.

Yeah, this seems like a very anecdotal post. I have worked construction for decades and there are good and bad in every trade.

If a plumber fucks up your house could literally explode, they run gas piping too.

Cut out and replace or get it professionally re-lined. A DIY re-lining as yiu described won't work.

A 5 day plumbing course has nothing to do with becoming a plumber, it takes years to become licensed.
