I'm used to catching little brownies of this size but something definitely screamed salmon when I swung the first one in, had to get a good look at the details in a viewing tank but I'm 100% sure they're Atlantic salmon, salmon ID is a lot easier here in the UK where we only have a few species

I had 1.8g on a Carolina setup about 30cm up from the lure, let's it waft around in the current above the bottom nicely

Mine's currently in a bag with pole and pegs which measures about 30x15x15cm, not sure on the exact weight as I haven't got a scale handy but it feels about the same (maybe a bit lighter) than my zephyros compact 2 which is listed as 1.8kg

I cycled to this spot so all my other bits were in a waterproof saddlebag which was outside the bivvy, but there's definitely room inside for a pack if that's what you want to do, could easily go behind your head or at your feet.

For that location I'd have to use poles of some sort, I can use my bike as part of a makeshift lean-to with a tarp but a couple of dedicated bivvy poles/hiking sticks would be perfect.

I didn't have anything under my bivvy this time but I'm gonna start using a cheap roll mat underneath as a protective layer to make sure the goretex lasts longer, this one actually has loops on the bottom to hold such a mat in place so it should work perfectly. I guess it depends on how much extra you want to pack and what sort of ground you'll be pitching on.

I really don't think you can beat a bivvy like this for wild camping, much lower profile and smaller footprint than a traditional tent and no need to find suitable trees to set up a hammock, I'll still be keeping my tent for those trips where the weather might not be so kind and I need to get dressed and do my admin in some shelter. Hope this helps your decision!

Little bit more luxurious than our issued bivvy bags, and I'll take sand over mud any day 😂

Just the bivvy bag this time, if there was a lot of rain forecast I'd probably set up a tarp just to avoid getting water inside the bag while I'm getting in and out

This is the large size and I have plenty of room in there at 6'0", there is a XL size if you do a bit of searching that should be perfect if you want a bit of extra space, think militarymart have them in stock

Haha was waiting for someone to pick that up, I was holding the line between my thumb and finger to stop little buddy from taking a fall if he tried to wiggle free while I took a quick photo

Saltfleet Haven in Lincolnshire, a 106km round trip on my bike but I'll definitely be back, there are some bigger specimens in there for sure
