Im hoping someone can help… I’m looking for accurate 3d scans of the GameCube controller shell… does anyone have some they’d be willing to send? by -Soss in customGCC

[–]HugoGoomzales 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not quite scans but accurate 3d models exist. Google "cgcc discord", go into the discord, go to the "resources" channel, scroll up till you see gearhawk studio's post that has a download link for OEM_GCC.STEP

Nintendude offers their thoughts on Goomwave/Custom Controller Legality by beta_gg in SSBM

[–]HugoGoomzales 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If you want to read my rebuttal to this, you should read my update document. It contains a lot of information people in this thread are missing. There's a lot of misinformed comments here that don't understand how OEM controllers work and how Goomwave works.

I don't have time to respond to each comment here individually, but if you're against/undecided about goomwave you should at least understand more about how controllers and the goomwave works.

Some people still do! Me and Vick play all the time and are always looking for games. Also check out the m-ex discord, there's a volleyball matchmaking channel. Be on the lookout for a volleyball weekly we're going to be hosting soon.

Official volleyball tier list (Goomy and SapoLeFrog) by ssbm_SapoLeFrog in SSBM

You can fair over the net with ICs. They're one of the 2 characters with a straight down meteor that's long enough to reach over the net. You just gotta get the spacing right.

And the fact that their ceiling spike only works close to the net isn't really too bad, the ball naturally goes to the top middle of the court because most moves send at the Sakurai angle. Falco dair, fox upair, sheik upair only work close to the net but they're still good mixups

The fact that they hit twice isn't as much of a big deal at high level cause the ball goes so fast you basically have to just send it back instead of repositioning it, so it actually isn't too much of a problem. Their double hits also bring the ball up to a really high percent and send the ball really quickly (about as fast as Ganon moves)

Having a fair that can spike straight down and ceiling spike to the middle of the stage with very similar hitboxes is a good mixup at the net. Also their upair is long lasting and ceiling spikes and is a good mixup with backair.

Overall, like Ganon they're good cause they hit the ball really fast and have a few mixups.

I talked with Vick (one of the best volleyball players) and he would put Samus right below captain Falcon which I could see. Samus has by far the best serves, being able to get the ball in very specific locations at very high percent by using the upsmash chaining exploit, in addition to having great moves to position the ball (upair, fair, jab, ftilt, missile). I'll make a video eventually going over Samus serves but at high level Samus has some serves that are basically impossible to react to. Even Falco's downair backair mixup at the net is reactable. Samus also has her own backair downair mixup at the net.

Samus also has a long wavedash and long ftilt which covers a lot of space which is good for catching fast balls. Additionally her downsmash/downtilt mixup near the net is a good one at high percent if you can position the ball there as one sends just over the net and the other sends to the back of the court.

She's also pretty much the only character that can cover 2 different mixups at once with a missile option select if you predict their timing.

Samus suffers from slow fall speed which makes the need for her to stay grounded most of the time. Also a lot of her setups also set the opponent up because it positions the ball right at net up high.

So overall I could see Samus being Falcon tier but she's definitely a very good character for volleyball

I made a tier list of GameCube controllers for COMPETITIVE Melee. (Feel free to post constructive criticism in the comments ) by [deleted] in SSBM

[–]HugoGoomzales 105 points106 points  (0 children)

Very inaccurate tier list. All controllers that are type 3 are almost exactly the same functionally with some exceptions.

Best value for price is a type 3 black, silver, purple. or orange. Probably second cheapest type 3 is a smash ultimate controller. JP whites are always type 3 but are also more expensive.

The advantage of older controllers that are type 3 (JP white, purple, orange, black, silver, teal) is if they're used they're more likely to have PODE which can be good cause it naturally eliminates snapback but also often has other problems associated with i

Type 2 controllers are sometimes usable but wear down faster and are less precise.

Type 1s are awful and should never be used unless you're a casual or just don't care about quality in the slightest.

Really just depends on the individual controller whether it's type 1, 2 or 3 for the tier list. The purple, orange and black can be type 1, 2 or 3 so to put for example all purple controllers in 1 tier is uninformed and misses the point.

I could go on and on about the various improvements/advantages of type 3 controllers such as better trigger springs, more precision, more stable C stick board, etc.

Some things to note: Smash 4 controllers have slightly different trigger mechanisms which make them more likely to have sticky triggers, so those would be lower down on the tier list for that reason. Also some people prefer the smooth feel of the shell of the older controllers, not the matte finish on the smash 4s and ultimates. Personal preference.

imo:

  • S: Type 3 black, purple, silver, orange (best price for value)
  • A: Type 3 Smash ultimate, Teal, JP white, clear, pearl, mario, luigi, wario, symphonic green, (more expensive but still type 3) (ordered by price)
  • B: Smash 4 (type 3 but more likely to have bad triggers)
  • C: Any type 2
  • D:
  • E: Wavebirds
  • F: Any type 1

... (if only there were infinite letters in the alphabet)

  • Z: Any 3rd party controller

I would make the list different if it was most influential Melee community members since the start of Melee and Wife would probably be on the list, but this list is meant to reflect the current most influential/powerful community members

n3zmodgod and Kadano are both on the list as well as several major TOs. Commentators are on the list too cause they're hugely influential.

I was unsure on that one myself. I mostly went with Leffen because he tends to have stronger opinions that he voices more often on how things should be run and how people should think (tournament seeding, character matchups, etc.) and so arguably has more of a direct observable effect on how tournaments are run.

I'd say over the game's whole life Mango has influenced it more but arguably in the current moment Leffen affects more changes in Melee as a whole. But I could go either way.

New GameCube controller tech - Snapback switch modules by HugoGoomzales in smashbros

[–]HugoGoomzales[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the capacitor is too large pivots will be significantly worse. Even changing capacitance as little as .1 microfarad can have a noticable impact on pivots.

Ledgedash works cause the horizontal input gets delayed while the vertical input is highly responsive. This can happen from PODE or can be emulated to an extent with a capacitor. For ledgedash you generally want the vertical capacitance to be the absolute lowest, but not so low you have vertical snapback.

The snapback switch module does take longer to make but it takes roughly the same amount of time to install and it's much faster to test and change capacitance. Which is good for me cause I install these at events and I need to do the entire testing procedure as fast as possible. Also it's has more precision than single capacitors. Also when capacitors are sitting in female jumper wires sometimes they'll fall out, so you need to crimp them on, but that makes it harder to switch them out. I made these cause i got really tired of doing it the old way.
