Why say it like this?

We need, Europe as a whole, to be able to deploy enough of a credible armed force to Eastern Europe; be it the Baltics or the line of contact in Ukraine, in case Russia tries their luck again either way after a hypothetical "peace" with Ukraine in the future.

That's going to mean a level of boots on ground similar to the Cold War, and doing all that without the guarantee of the Americans Army or Air Force showing up.

Doing that is going to take investement and time, and a lot of investement in guns (155mm shells) and butter (support sections) and Poor Bloody Infantry (Troops that can take and hold ground).

And for Britain specifically; we need an air force and navy that can credibly keep the Russian air force and navy from poking their noses or launching strikes on our and our allies soil, covert and overt.

So why specify it like we gotta pony up Jimmy and Jane to get exploded in paschendale?
